MayaWorks' artisan partners from San Marcos La Laguna and Santiago Atitlán enjoyed their second group therapy session about self-esteem and violence prevention. We are extremely grateful to partner with the Embajada de Canadá en Guatemala who is helping to finance our project to increase the economic opportunities and mental health of women artisans through increased product visibility, sales, and psychosocial support. In the coming days we will share more about this amazing project that is only possible because of the financial support of the Canadian government.

It was an exhausting but joyful day visiting with MayaWorks' artisan partners. Our first stop was with the Agua Caliente weavers who create our challah covers, Peace Salaam Shalom banners, lightweight tallit, Worry Doll mirrors, and table runners. Next stop was to the Rosa Moya tutoring center where the artisans demonstrated how they make rosemary shampoo. The artisans received training to make natural products to sell in their local communities. It has helped diversify their income during the pandemic. Our last stop was with long-time artisan, Lili Carmen, who creates MayaWorks' beautiful tallitot. It was wonderful to visit with artisans after three long years.

It's our first full day of MayaWorks Judaica Tour to Guatemala. We started with a quick stop to view the Magen David in Guatemala City. The city tour revolves around paying tribute to and remembering the 200,000 Guatemalans who were killed or disappeared during Guatemala's decades long civil war.

A MayaWorks wholesale customer sought a kippah design in the colors of the Ukrainian flag for a customer who wanted to take them to Poland to distribute to Jewish Ukrainian refugees. Our artisan partners created this gorgeous Sunflower kippah.

The customer loved the kippah so much, she has placed multiple orders. We are not sure how the kippot are being distributed under conditions of war, but we fervently hope that one of our Sunflowers will find its way to the head of Ukraine's Jewish president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
