“Our stay at The Sundowner was fantastic!! It was the perfect vacation rental with lots of space and a great location. Loved that it was only 1 block off Main Street and 1 block to the beach!! It had an extremely well-stocked kitchen and very cozy rooms with tasteful & inviting decor. The hosts, Agape Vacation Rentals contact Eric and property manager Jean, were both very communicative and responsive, and provided us with detailed instructions that made check-in & check-out very easy. Our "Review of the Week" this week is for Village of Hope Cabins, which are a group of 6 fun and family-friendly "hillbilly style" cabins outside of Ava, Missouri in the picturesque foothills of the Ozark Mountains. We are very thankful to Kelsea for the following lovely review of the cabins:

"Great place to stay for our Fall Girls Trip. We had a large group of almost 30 people. Perfect for all ages, we had as young as a few weeks old baby up to 80 years old and everyone was very pleased. The large yard and playground was perfect for the kids to stretch their legs after a long drive. Perfect setting out in the country the kids could run without having to stress about them running out into the road. Cabins were very clean and comfortable, kitchen was well stocked, outdoor firepit was beautiful! I noticed a ton of fruit trees on the property as well!"

"Every once and awhile, you have a VRBO experience where the property is high quality, pristine and very completely equipped . . . That was what we got with this rental. The property owner is among the top tier of hosts in terms of attention to detail and understanding the needs of tenants. The rooms were comfortably furnished and, while we didn't do much cooking, the kitchen was equipped with a comprehensive array of cooking tools and utensils. Very well done! We'll be staying there again on a future visit to the area."

Two moles, four shrew, seven squirrels, three voles, six mice, three weasels, two fox, five bats, and one of each of the following: white tailed deer, coyote, bobcat, badger, racoon, black bear, opossum, eastern rabbit, snowshoe hare, beaver, muskrat, and a woodchuck.

What does that list represent?

These are all mammal species that call Sleeping Bear Dunes' home.

For the rest of us mammals, this is a place we like to visit, usually during the summer months. But, for the other mammals this is where they live year-round. They have to find shelter from the cold during the winter, food when it is maybe in short supply, water during the hot summer months and a secure place to raise their young even when there are thousands of visitors in the park.

We are very excited to now be managing Carpe Diem 365, a gorgeous 2-bedroom, 2-bath lakefront condo in Oscoda! It's just south of downtown Oscoda and the Au Sable River and features a gorgeous private sugar sand beach on Lake Huron! Maybe she's born with it.....maybe it's maple leaves. 🍁🍁

Deciduous trees across the Lakeshore are starting to take on their fall colors. Due to a lack of late summer rain, we are seeing many more shades of brown, than yellow or red. Peak color is projected for mid-October.
