This Giving Tuesday, I'm thrilled to share the heartwarming story behind this year's special creation, inspired by the iconic 1930's cover from "The Saturday Evening Post" by J. C. Leyendecker, titled "Santa Up A Ladder." Drawing from this timeless piece, I embarked on a creative endeavor, infusing purpose and meaning into my own version.
Meet Milo, the spirited French Bulldog from Willow's Wings Animal Sanctuary, Inc. who became the beating heart of this year's image, lovingly titled "A Tail of Triumph." Milo's inspiring journey is a heartwarming Christmas miracle, showcasing the beautiful resilience that unfolds when given the opportunity to overcome significant obstacles.
In December 2022, Milo's world took a tumble during a playful day in his family yard, resulting in a life-altering diagnosis of paralysis due to disk compression. His prognosis was grim, facing the daunting reality of never walking again or having control over basic functions. Faced with the difficult decision of euthanasia, Milo's family turned to Willow's Wings for a lifeline. Known for their transformative work with paralyzed dogs, the sanctuary became Milo's second chance.
Arriving just in time for Christmas, Milo began his journey to recovery through medication, therapy, and unwavering love. From no movement to standing at six weeks, and after ten weeks of rest, therapy, and a sprinkle of Christmas magic, Milo not only walked again but joyfully chased his ball around the yard. And, as shown in the image, he effortlessly stands on two feet, prepared to enjoy a delicious bite of Santa's cookie.
