Whether you’ve cruised before or have never taken a cruise, I will now give a shameless plug for Princess. Just finished my second voyage and I was blown away by the helpfulness and kindness of the staff. I traveled with my aunt who has some mobility issues and she was looked after from start to finish. Even more, Princess has great food and entertainment, with itineraries across the globe. I would love to set you up with a great trip. Things are already booking to up for 2025 and beyond. Not sure who needs to hear this, but I just thought of another quick thing I wanted to post about travel. Everything won’t be perfect. No matter how well you plan and choose your travel package. Can you still have an amazing experience? Absolutely! But tempering expectations will make you much more able to ride the inevitable bumps in the road. The trip I’m on has certainly had some less than wonderful moments, but I’m making great memories and lots has been superb. Life is messy. Travel anyway!! ([email protected] or 205-826-7533).

Took a bus tour of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Fascinating history with connections to both British and American stories. Lovely early fall day. The public gardens were gorgeous. Also saw the final resting place of dozens from the Titanic, many unidentified. Pretty sobering. But it’s true—Canadians really are genuinely friendly! There’s lots to experience and explore here. Here’s a travel tip you may have heard, but maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet: pack light! I saw so many people struggling with multiple huge bags as I left my cruise. It was a seven day cruise, and I only had one soft large backpack and a tiny day pack. I could have done with even less. Unless you are working out, wear the same clothes more than once. It really pays to do your homework before traveling! I found out about an exclusive chef’s table experience on my cruise from a YouTube review. I put my name on the list and got in! Only 12 guests and personal attention from the chef and a full wait staff. Such a lovely experience and at a fraction of the cost had this been a land reservation. Dang that ship is big! Do you think if you’re in port from a ship this size (with another one right next to it) that you could have a chance to escape the crowds? Believe me, you can. With Google maps, I walked less than a mile past the herds going off on expensive tours, and am now sipping coffee with locals, planning my day strolling around Old San Juan.
