Here’s a travel tip you may have heard, but maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet: pack light! I saw so many people struggling with multiple huge bags as I left my cruise. It was a seven day cruise, and I only had one soft large backpack and a tiny day pack. I could have done with even less. Unless you are working out, wear the same clothes more than once. This view I had while reading today sums up the feel of this cruise. Princess’ theme color is blue, and I felt surrounded by so many beautiful shades of blue this week. I definitely recommend them as a cruise line, primarily for the look and feel of the ship and the top notch service from the friendly staff. Made some friends this morning in the Dominican Republic. Princess has lots of great excursions in each port, but this spoke to my childhood self that was desperate for a pet squirrel monkey! Beautiful day on Grand Turk. Spent the afternoon at a great beachside restaurant just marvelling at the colors of the water. Nothing compares! And once again I avoided the crowds at the port by taking a taxi into the small town. Felt worlds away. The vibe here is great. Nice rentals on the beach. Would make a great escape! It really pays to do your homework before traveling! I found out about an exclusive chef’s table experience on my cruise from a YouTube review. I put my name on the list and got in! Dang that ship is big! Do you think if you’re in port from a ship this size (with another one right next to it) that you could have a chance to escape the crowds? Believe me, you can. With Google maps, I walked less than a mile past the herds going off on expensive tours, and am now sipping coffee with locals, planning my day strolling around Old San Juan. Learning new things all the time about travel. “Shoulder seasons” are times of the year adjacent to peak travel times and usually come with lower prices.
