This culinary excursion that I have booked for my clients arriving next week in Athens looks AMAZING!
The Athens culinary walk, lets you discover a different side of the city by joining the Greeks in what is probably their favorite activity: eating! With so much to offer, and a city that never stops cooking up great things, you’ll quickly come to feel the same way yourself, taking the experience, one delicious bite at a time.
You’ll get an explanation of the role of food in Greek life, and of the eating habits of Athenians in particular. The smells and range of products in the specialty food shops, and the bustle of the open air market will make your taste buds sing!
Sample, unique, local, delicacies, from small batch, olive oil‘s, and baklava to bougasta (cream filled Filo pastry)YUM!!
Find out more about the Mediterranean diet, what it really consists of and why it’s so good for you. You will also head into the traditional belly of the city, the biggest and most popular fish, meat, and vegetable market in all of Athens. This is where the locals come to shop for their every day needs. The market is boisterously lively, and the butchers and fish mongers that work here compete with one another for the attention of the passing shoppers, using humor and hand gestures.
As you continue your walk towards the cities spice street, you’ll drop into a shop with an incredible variety of local condiments and herbs& spices such as Greek oregano and Saffron. You’ll learn how these items and others are use in Greek cooking, as well as other culinary secrets the locals have to offer.
The last stop on the tour will be at a charming taverna for scrumptious Greek meze like tapas, but only better. Here you’ll be able to try classic appetizers, a variety of cheeses, and cured meats. When they finally cleared the plates away, the mission will be accomplished, and you will leave with a full and happy stomach, and a much better understanding of the world of Greek food culture. 🇬🇷
