Amy is a registered interior designer and a 2009 Interior Design graduate from the University of Alabama. She previously worked with us from 2013–2017. We are delighted that she has returned to BI, joining our outstanding Pensacola team.

Our teams located in the Birmingham showroom have had the pleasure this summer of working with Cameron “CC” Hahn, our Design | Student Intern.

CC is an incoming junior at the University of Alabama with the goal of one day working as a commercial interior designer. Her first couple of weeks were a jump off the deep end in learning just how many finishes, textiles, and materials are available at a designer’s fingertips… by organizing our materials library alongside our Design | Director Celia Spurrier. Since then, she has shadowed several teams here in Birmingham, joined project presentations, and rode along on site visits. Her dedication to getting the job done and her passion for interior design are evident. And, while we’re excited for her next steps, we’re sad to see her go.

Kim is a Registered Interior Designer, and she has over twenty-five years of experience, all of it working in a Herman Miller dealership. Business Interiors is proud to have worked on Phelps Dunbar’s new Birmingham law office.

Phelps Dunbar, a large law firm with multiple locations around the United States and London, recently relocated their Birmingham office to the Massey Building, a historic renovation project spearheaded by CCR Architecture & Interiors.

CCR transformed the space with an abundance of natural light, bright finishes, and a focus on the firm’s branding—a remarkable change from their previous office, which consisted of dark tones and heavy furniture.

The private offices are Knoll Inc. Reff veneer, with a mixture of adjustable and fixed-height desk layouts. The entire project includes a lobby and reception, private offices, workstations, a breakroom + cafe, conference rooms, and a law library.

Congratulations to all involved, as the project is a beautiful success.

BI ranked #43 in the BBJ’s Top 100 “Largest Privately Held Companies” in their June 2024 “This Week’s List” issue. This ranking is up sixteen spots from our ranking of the 59th largest in 2023.

Additionally, BI is honored to have been recognized by the UAB National Alumni Society as the #1 fastest-growing company whose revenues are over $10 million. Business Interiors is proud to have sponsored and participated in the inaugural Keira Grace Foundation Charity Golf Tournament in Gainesville, Florida.

The Keira Grace Foundation was founded in 2004 by Drs. Michael and Eileen Lauzardo as a not-for-profit whose mission is to bring hope, restoration, and life to children with cancer in Latin America. As part of their history and mission, “the treatment of children’s cancer has improved dramatically and many forms are considered curable. But this is not the case for 80 percent of the world’s children who live in poverty-stricken countries where cancer is often a death sentence. Keira Grace Foundation focuses on taking proven cancer treatment to developing nations where the most impact can be made, dramatically improving survival”

BI Client Advisor Hugh Davis has worked with the KGF since its formation, and he is a longtime friend of the Lauzardos. Hugh was joined by BI’s Tony Roper and Shawn Bonds and Colin Farrell from HCA Healthcare Lake City in playing in this tournament, supporting a great cause.

Originally hired as Client Services | Support, she moved into the project manager position herself after a few years with the company and now works alongside BI Client Advisor and Principal Richie Hamer.

Jennifer takes pride in her work, dedicating herself to the clients’ projects and her team. From day to day, Jennifer is a problem solver, a furniture specifier, a quote creator, and, after a couple of recent projects, a fabric guru. She’s not afraid to ask questions, and she is passionate about the pace and challenges of her role.

Business Interiors is proud to have provided both furniture and wall solutions in Birchfield Penuel Architects’ newly renovated office building.

Reopened last November, the BPA team transformed the 1960’s office building, their home since 1987, into a spectacular new headquarters. The building was originally a multi-tenant space, but as BPA grew, so did their footprint. Rather than move to a different location, BPA connected the two floors with a new central staircase and new building entrance. Down came the aggregate wall panels, and up came the full-height glass, along with other architectural elements.

The interior also underwent a complete overhaul—new offices, breakroom, library, conference, and meeting spaces. New paint, new flooring, new furniture—almost new everything.

The private offices and workstations are Knoll Inc. solutions, and Amcase provided much of the storage. The Architectural Products team provided Falkbuilt solutions for the glass fronts on the private offices and a Taz Dual Telescoping Wall solution for one of the conference rooms.

The overall project is a stunning success, and it is our honor to have played a small part in Birchfield Penuel Architects’ next chapter.

Business Interiors was proud to have recently sponsored the 24th Annual Maggie Coffey Memorial Tournament in Tallahassee. Organized by the Venom Foundation, whose mission is to provide free, year-round tennis programs for local youth and to promote the importance of healthy eating and exercise, the tournament raises money for Venom while honoring the legacy of Magdalene “Maggie” Coffey.

Maggie Coffey was a teacher and an integral part of the sports programs at Tallahassee’s Leon High School. She coached multiple sports and was one of the first to establish summer youth sports in the area. Maggie was well-educated, well-traveled, and a close friend of legendary tennis player Arthur Ashe. Her legacy lives on through the Venom Foundation, which stresses the importance of health and fitness.

BI Client Advisor Thomas Curry is on the board of the Venom Foundation. He is also an active tennis player and a certified tennis coach. BI Designer Michelle Bembry, also an active tennis player, joined Thomas in the tournament and even placed.

Thanks to the Venom Foundation for the important role they play in the Tallahassee community, and to Thomas and Michelle for involving Business Interiors in this important organization. The sponsorship money provided by BI will go towards the scholarship of one of the Venom Foundation’s student volunteers.

The BI Pensacola team recently hosted clients and family at a Night at the Ballpark with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. It was an evening of baseball, hot dogs, and fun. ⚾️🌭🎉

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us, thanks to the Wahoos staff for being gracious hosts, and thanks to the men on the field for a great game! The Wahoos didn’t pull out the win the night we were there, but they went on to beat the Mississippi Braves four games to two, and that’s what matters 😉

That’s a wrap on Design Days! A special thank you to all our clients and A+D partners who made the trip to Chicago and joined us at the MillerKnoll showrooms in Fulton Market. The designs, solutions, and innovations presented by Knoll Inc., Herman Miller, and all the other alliance partners under the MillerKnoll umbrella were first-class. Business Interiors’ Architectural Products team is proud to have worked with CCR Architecture & Interiors on the Harmony Venture Labs project.

Harmony Venture Labs is a start-up incubator located in what was an old warehouse in Birmingham, Alabama. Their mission is to launch, grow, and support startup companies.

CCR brought the former warehouse into the modern era with functional and aesthetic solutions that are reflective of the HVL brand. This included working with the National Park Service to maintain and protect the building’s timber framing and interior and exterior brick masonry.

It was the job of BI's Architectural Products team to provide solutions that complimented the integrity of the renovated building and that aligned with CCR's vision for their client. Our team worked with the project architects, providing 253 linear feet of Falk glass front wall solutions, including sliding barn doors, as well as a Fräsch acoustical wall that was both functional and elemental to the space’s design.

Please join us in wishing our friend and colleague Teresa Inman a happy retirement! 🎉

Teresa first joined Business Interiors in September of 1990 when her brother and BI founder Alan Pizzitola asked if she would come work for the company, which at the time was only several years old.

Teresa was hired as BI’s controller, and the rest was history. She has not only been an integral part of the BI Accounting team but of the entire company. She has seen BI grow from a small dealer based only in Birmingham to one with six locations in Alabama and Florida and one of the largest dealers in the Southeast.

And through it all, through moves from one larger Birmingham showroom to the next, through ups and downs, wins and losses, Teresa has been steadfast in her position and her process (an attribute a company very much needs in their Accounting Department!).

While today may be her last “official” day, Teresa has assured us that she remains on call when needed, assuring us that she’s not changing her number 😉 With her upcoming free time, she plans to spend as much of it as possible with her grandchildren.

Business Interiors is pleased to announce that Samantha Hill has joined BI as our new Healthcare Division Director.

Samm will lead Business Interiors’ healthcare division, a department of BI focused solely on medical and caregiving facilities. She will provide expertise and support for our healthcare clients and for all BI teams working on these projects.

She comes to BI with over twenty years of experience in the healthcare industry. She is EDAC certified, on the board of the Alabama Chapter of Women in Healthcare, and a member of the Birmingham chapter of Healthcare Leaders Association. Samm is also an active community volunteer for Best Buddies in Alabama and a member of Leadership Vestavia Hills.

It was Business Interiors’ pleasure last October to fully utilize MillerKnoll’s “rePurpose Program," a robust partnership between MillerKnoll and Installnet that allows our clients to give their surplus furniture, supplies, and equipment new life.

Vulcan Materials Company was adamant that their six floors of existing furniture would not end up in a landfill following the renovation and rethinking of their Birmingham headquarters.

The rePurpose Program diverted six floors, nearly 600,000 pounds of furniture, from the landfill and instead rePurposed, reUsed, and reCycled 99.7% of the existing furniture, with 22 local nonprofits and community groups receiving furniture and other office fixtures.

Installnet produced this fantastic video of the decommissioning project, highlighting several donation recipients and Vulcan’s dedication to avoiding landfill waste.

BI is proud to have participated in such a substantial sustainability project, and we’re thankful for our partners at MillerKnoll and Installnet.

Ascension St. Vincent's recently opened its first freestanding emergency department (FED) in Trussville, Alabama. The BI team was involved in this project from the start, working alongside the architecture firm Birchfield Penuel Architects.

The 12,500-square-foot facility, which provides life-saving 24/7 emergency care, is the workplace of cardiovascular, surgical, transplant, neuro, stroke, and orthopedic specialists.

The project scope of the Business Interiors team included the lobby, twelve treatment rooms, two triage rooms, nurse stations, lab, imaging, closed offices, and break rooms. The FED provides ease of access to the local community and a central point of care outside of the hospital.

Thank you to everyone who attended the BI Masters Event in our Birmingham showroom last Thursday. Despite the drizzly weather, the turnout was GREAT, and we appreciate everyone spending their lunch hour or their afternoon with us. ⛳️

Our 6-hole Mini Golf course was well traversed, with some lighthearted trash talk between industry friends and coworkers.

The pay-to-fundraise Hit-It-to-Win-It Putting Challenge was great fun that tested the efforts of both the serious golfers and the casual beach vacation mini-golfer. Guests left with prizes galore, including dozens of gift cards, a dozen (or more…) bottles of whiskey, and an Eames Turned Stool.

Because of the generous participation of our attendees, the Hit-It-to-Win-It challenge raised $1,250 for the The ALS Association Alabama Chapter! From your friends at BI, MillerKnoll, Carpet Specialties, Inc., Interface, and Momentum Textiles & Wallcovering – THANK YOU. ❤️

Members of the Business Interiors Birmingham team, along with friends, family, and pets, participated in the 2024 Birmingham Heart Walk this past weekend. The walk is an annual health event and fundraiser for the American Heart Association; it is one of many walks scheduled by the AHA around the United States.

BI joined forces with walkers from Gresham Smith’s Birmingham office for a brisk, early morning 5K stroll.

In November 2023, the Alabaster Police Department opened the doors of their new headquarters after having previously been in the same building for the past seventy years. The new 34,000-square-foot facility is the workplace for nearly 90 officers and staff and is home to several agencies, training classes, interview rooms, evidence storage, communication facilities, and temporary housing for inmates.

Business Interiors was awarded the project in early 2020, just before the COVID shutdown. It was late August 2020 before the ground ceremony took place, and then January 2021 when construction started. Despite COVID-related project delays, the BI team worked steadfastly and patiently with members of the department to see the project through for over three years.

The project’s scope included Private Offices, Conference Rooms, Workstations, Break Room, Lobby, Training Rooms, and the Dispatch Area. Additionally, the Business Interiors’ team sourced a media backdrop with the police department's seal, United States flags, Alabama State flags, and faux plants and planters.
