"The barn house felt like a hobbit castle! It was very quaint and cozy. The property was very well laid out, with other guest accommodations nearby, but far enough apart to allow for privacy and community, as desired.

The common areas on the property provide opportunities for relaxing and hiking. Off-site activities are nearby and any required necessities are within a short drive."

3 years and ANOTHER renovation (this time we updated the kitchen, added laundry center, and more), the Farmhouse keeps getting better and better!

Did you know our 1890s Farmhouse sheltered a family of 9 (!) through the Great Depression and 2 world wars? The original structure was only 600 square feet plus a small sleeping loft for the kids…what many consider a “tiny house” today. No basement, no bathroom, no plumbing. Water, hauled by horse team from Merritt Lake (now Embarrass Lake) was kept in a barrel on the back porch, butchered meat in another barrel outside, and produce in a root cellar below. The woodstove was their lifeline for heating and cooking throughout the long Minnesota winters. A well was drilled in the 40s, and basement and indoor plumbing added shortly thereafter…what opulence!

Proprietor Shawn Callahan stumbled onto the then-vacant property in 2002, with the vision for what has become GGGH. “The farmhouse had been emptied by the prior owners and was intended for demolition. I was determined to save it, and set out with little skills or funds, but endless ambition. Had I known what I was undertaking, I may not have started!”

After the first year of ‘pioneer living’ (once again, no power, water, or plumbing and only a woodstove for heat and cooking), the projects began. We raised the roof in 2003 to create proper sleeping quarters and a half-bath upstairs. The front porch added in 2012. It was a full decade of intermittent projects before we welcomed the first guests in 2013.

This year, a superinsulated exterior, windows, roof, siding and high-efficiency heating/cooling were updated to protect all the historic charm inside.

Tubing hours
Fridays: 4:45PM-6:45PM
Saturdays: 10:00AM-6:45PM
Sundays: 10:00AM-5:45PM

Tubing tickets are sold in 2 hour sessions and are available online!

All tubers must be 5 years old AND 42" tall.

As well as tubing, We have lifts spinning today and Saturday from 9AM-8PM and Sunday from 9AM-6PM!

Weekly Specials at The Burnt Onion Kitchen & Brews begin this week! Every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we have $10 specials on delicious favorites!

Mondays: Chili Cheese Fries , hand cut fries smothered in our house made chili, smoky cheddar cheese sauce, grilled jalapenos and cumin lime creama.

Tuesdays: Taco Tuesdays! Three beef or chicken tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, sliced olives, salsa and sour cream.

Wednesdays: Juicy Lucy Burgers, Hand formed beef patty stuffed with loads of American cheese and served on a toasted Kaiser roll with caramelized onions and hand cut fries.

We're teaming up with Neighbor's BBQ Co. to bring an even BIGGER and BETTER food & beverage option to Giants Ridge + the Iron Range!

Neighbor's BBQ is currently located near Tower, MN, but will be moving their headquarters + operating our restaurant here at The Lodge at Giants Ridge starting this spring, with an anticipated opening date in May 2023.

We are thrilled to welcome Neighbor's BBQ as a partner + think our guests will be, too!
