Pics this morning in and around our property at Blue Mountain Rest, Lake Durant and Blue Mountain Lake. We've been getting consistent snow since before Thanksgiving. With more snow coming tomorrow night and Tuesday.

We still have limited availability for Christmas and New Years. Make sure you go to our website www.bluemountainrest.com and look for the holiday specials this week and for the new year.

All of our rooms have fully equipped kitchens but if you don't feel like cooking Darrell's Mountain Diner just across the street will be open all winter on the weekends.

Lakes are now frozen. Lake Durant for over a month for ice fishing, the New York State trail system that comes right through our property is waiting for you if you'd like to do some snowshoeing or some cross-country skiing right from our rooms. Downhill ski or snowboard? Gore Mountain has been open close to a month, and plenty of snow at McCauley if you are a beginner or novice skier. And the snowmobile trails are almost ready and might be after the predicted snows this week.

Getting ready for snowmobile season. Just took the Dragon 800 around the yard for a little spin. Went to the Snodeo in Old Forge last weekend. Best snow I've seen there in years and the hive was full of the snowmobile bees buzzing around everywhere that in that town.

Just posted even more winter specials on my website www.blumoutrest.com. If you bring your sled I have plenty of parking for any size trailer and you will get a 15% lodging discount off of my rates. We are also on the snowmobile trail ......if you cut through back side of my property you'll end up at the gas station on the corner and if you go out of the front of my property you'll see Darrell's Mountain Diner if you want to get a bite to eat and it'll take you out to the hundreds of miles of trails that can lead you to Long Lake, Newcomb, Old Forge, Indian Lake, Lake Pleasant and Beyond. With all the questions regarding the gondola project we wanted to give an update on the progress. The new gondola cabins have been installed and all associated updates to accommodate the new cabins have been completed. After a load test, the lift should be ready to go. We are going to be shifting some of our snowmaking to the upper mountain areas including Ruby Run, Foxlair and Top Ridge. We appreciate everyone's patience as we get the gondola ready for the season with brand new cabins for a better experience. We'll be sure to update you once the lift is ready to open. In the meantime, we are continuing to open up more terrain for everyone to enjoy and look forward to skiing/riding off of the gondola soon!

We have been getting Lake Effect snows since November 26th just before Thanksgiving. 13 days almost consecutively. My first annual picnic Jam just could have gone any better Sunday September 25th. 18 musicians attended along with a total of 35 family friends and spouses. And it was an absolutely perfect day for it. First kudos the Performing musicians. Including Bob Gibson, Yod Crewsey, Emily O, John Schleckman, Josiah davis, Nancy Haulter , Steve Mccauley, Jack Aeber, Bob wilson, Don Ackerman, George Carruthers, Bob Faulkner, Rocky Belcher, Taff and myself. And thanks to to those who came that didn't play, Deanna Courtney, Steve Wadecki, and Bill Fyfe. Hopefully you will join us next year.

And many thanks to my wife Boka who cooked the chili , sausage and peppers and the tomato salad, Willy's BBQ who provided the smoked chicken, collard greens and beans. And all the women who provided the other goodies, including several desserts, salads and pretzels. Making it a wonderful feast. Good food, good music, good friends and a good time. There will definitely be a second annual picnic Jam next year at the Blue Mountain Rest.

This post came a little late because Beverly Ackerman sent pictures and videos to my personal page and I was not able to share a share if you know what I mean. So those of you who did attend if you would like to make comments or add pics or videos in THIS comment section of THIS post, I hope you would.

Last credits go to my good friend Dane White, who helped me set up the big 10x20 tent and my brother Randy who helped me set up the smaller 10x10s and the food station who visited that previous mid-week along with my sister-in-law Sylvia and my cousin Joanne.

Every year I head out a hike for the Great Adirondack Moose Festival, which is always the last weekend of September in Indian Lake. Dates September 27th 28th 29th, also normally one of the peak weekends for leaf peepers. The colors are coming already.

Yesterday I hiked Buck Mountain one of the newest hikes in the Adirondacks, which opened last year, just outside of Long Lake, 25 minutes from my property and it has which has a fire tower. And a series of well constructed steps up to the top. With an amazing 360° panoramic view. I went to check it out and this is no easy hike, but doable. On the tower I met an 80-year-old guy by the name of Ken and we finished the trek together. It's only 1.2 miles, first half of the hike is very easy and then it goes up to the Tower where you get the spectacular View.

So if you want to join me, meet me that morning at Blue Mountain Rest 8821 Nys Rte 30 Blue Mountain Lake New York 12812. Words of caution however, you must have hiking boots on, sneakers are not recommended at all. Bring water and snacks and lunch if you wish. The conditions yesterday were wet and mushy, so although it was a short hike it took me over 3 and 3/4 hour to do the round trip.

It was slow going.

This is a free guided hike and part of the Moose Festival activities which is an action-packed family event all weekend. Complete with a moose calling contest and many, many other activities..
