Did you know staurolite is the official state mineral of Georgia? The cross-shaped mineral is found in abundance along the hiking trails of Fannin County. In fact, it is only found in a few places across the globe.

The name "Starlight" Ridge cabin was coined after this local legendary stone.

Also known as "fairy crosses," Fannin folklore has it that fairies heard the news of the Crucifixion and wept. Their tears fell to the earth and crystallized into small stone crosses. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson kept the talisman as a good luck charm.
