Palmetto State Bank, headquartered in Hampton, South Carolina, was founded in 1907. We have grown from a bank with $2 million in assets located in Hampton, to a one half billion dollar institution with seven branches serving Beaufort, Allendale, and Hampton counties.
Our Board of Directors credit our exceptional growth to the fact that we have never lost sight of what is important to us...our customers. We deliver the kind of service that everyone thought was a thing of the past, because our customers are also our neighbors. Our employees are committed to providing the absolute best one-on-one service every time we interact.
For over 100 years, Palmetto State Bank has served our community. A trusted neighbor, through good times and bad, we've been here, lending a hand, helping businesses and families grow. After all, we're your community bank and we've been helping our neighbors since 1907.

Beaufort County and Town of Hilton Head Share 278 Corridor Project Update
Hilton Head Island, S.C. (Dec. 9, 2024) – The Town of Hilton Head Island and Beaufort County are continuing collaborative discussions on the future of the 278 Corridor Project. Following the recent failure of the 2024 Proposed Sales and Use Tax Referendum at the ballot, both entities remain committed to exploring solutions that prioritize the needs of residents and visitors alike.

This project, which seeks to improve safety and accessibility along the 278 Corridor, is critical for the region’s infrastructure. With the South Carolina State Infrastructure Bank requiring a comprehensive financial plan to address the funding shortfall by March 31, 2025, Beaufort County and the Town of Hilton Head are working together to reevaluate cost estimates, identify potential alternative funding sources, and determine actionable next steps.

“The 278 Corridor Project is essential for ensuring safe and efficient travel for our residents and the millions of visitors who come to Hilton Head each year,” said Town of Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry. “While the referendum’s outcome has given us a challenge, we must find a solution that protects and encourages the health and vitality of our local, regional and statewide economies.”

Beaufort County Council Chairman Joseph Passiment echoed the sentiment, stating, “The County is dedicated to securing the resources necessary to move this project forward. Addressing the needs of the 278 Corridor is not just an infrastructure priority—it’s a commitment to the safety, quality of life, and sustainable growth of our community. Collaboration with the Town of Hilton Head Island is key, and we appreciate their partnership as we navigate these waters together.”

The County and Town will continue to explore funding opportunities to ensure the project progresses in a manner that reflects the community’s best interests. Both entities encourage residents to stay informed and participate in future discussions as plans evolve.

I had fun hanging out on Saturday with members of the Southeast Coalition of Authentic Reenactors, a few members of Tarheel Civilians, The Molly Pitchers, and several others at the Heyward House in Bluffton, SC. Thanks again for inviting me!
Slower-paced events give me a chance to hang out more, listen to music, and chat with the general public and the living historians there. It was a fun time 🙂 Sitting in the parlor and looking at stereoviews was a kick.
Then Sat evening, after the living history was done for the day, I went off to an art event, (Kulture Klash 9) in North Charleston. While I did enjoy many aspects of the event, I personally felt the vibe wasn’t quite the same as in past events. One specific thing I wish they’d done is to group each artist’s work in one spot, rather than scattered around the space. I would’ve really hated that, if my work had been hanging there. I overheard a couple of people saying the same thing. Sadly I didn’t find any of the dancers anywhere…which was the main reason I brought a digital camera along. Plus, no photo booth. Those used to be such a blast. Ah well. At least I bumped into a couple of photographers I know, and I saw a few pieces of interesting art.
On Sunday I went to the Punk Rock Flea Market in Mt. Pleasant and ended up having delightful conversations with two different artists who were selling their work there. We exchanged our views and experiences on the local art scene and talked about our work. I needed that. It’s been ages since I’ve connected with artists.
So…a lot of “people-ing” this past weekend, but very rewarding!
I don’t have any more events on my schedule until February, 2025, but I’ll be updating my website soon to add my upcoming events and hope to use my free time constructively in the coming months.🙂
