This friendly whale is spyhopping! When a whale is spyhopping, they rise from the water and hold themselves vertical, often exposing their entire head. Typically the whale's eyes will be slightly above or below the surface of the water, enabling it to see whatever is nearby on the surface. This behavior is known as “whale mugging” a term marine biologists use to describe whales that choose to swim within close proximity of a boat. We chartered a whale watching on August 8th with Captain Mike. We were really not expecting anything to happen but it did. We had two beautiful humpbacks come right up to the boat and hung out for about an hour. It was magical. Thank you Captain Mike for giving us an experience of a lifetime. Our family loved it!
