The first Calusa Land Trust Kayak Trip of 2024
Save the date: Sunday, February 4 @11:00 AM
Launch site: Carman's Kayaks at the end of
Porto Bello Ave. in Bokeelia, FL 33922
Bring your own Kayak or rent one from Carmen's
239-333-7332 to reserve one from them.
The price is $10 for members and $20 for non members,
Membership sign-ups will be available that day.
This is a guided trip in the protected back-waters of Calusa Island. There will be a power boat available to carry anything you might want to bringy. We will stop somewhere along the route so bring a lunch. We will have water available.Someone has also offered to take anyone who wishes to come along but doesn't want to paddle. He can also assist in any emergencies. This trip should take about three hours. We'd like to get a count so e-mail me if you plan to come: [email protected] Hope to see you there.

The Osprey...or to some, the fish hawk, is not actually a hawk, at all, but classified in a single genus all its own ❤️. This magnificent rapture has a wing span of approximately 5 ft long. Osprey are piscivores, eating primarily (but not exclusively) a fish based diet. Osprey are usually found nesting near and around bodies of water, high atop of trees, light poles, and even man-made platforms. Hovering above, as it searches for prey, then diving down, into the water, it retrieves a fish with its talons. If successful, the Osprey balances itself with its wing tips on the surface of the water, turns the fish headfirst in its talons, so it’s aerodynamic during flight.
