We are close to a variety of commuter hubs! The nearest stations to us are Harpers Ferry station, Martinsburg, and Brunswick. You can take the MARC Commuter Rail from Union Station in Washington, D.C.., to and from Martinsburg, W.Va. on the MARC Brunswick Line Monday through Friday! Or jump on Amtrack's Capitol Limited to and from Washington, D.C. all the way to Chicago, Illinois! The Amtrack makes stops in Harpers Ferry, W.Va however, reservations are required.

Harpers Ferry station is a railway station in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. It is currently served by Amtrak's Capitol Limited as well as MARC commuter service. Built by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, the station is part of the Harpers Ferry Historic District, it was built in 1889.

We live just around the corner from this local legend 👀

📜 Legends say this marker shows where the troops would come to collect water during the US Civil War. The spring house was built prior to the Civil War. This public well house is in the middle of Bolivar Children's Park.

We live in a major part of history and get to learn more about it every time we wander around this old town 😍 When you go to lower town, you have got to stop by the recreated museum shops for a good dose of history!

The town was formerly spelled Harper's Ferry with an apostrophe, so named because in the 18th century it was the site of a ferry service owned and operated by Robert Harper. The United States Board on Geographic Names, whose Domestic Name Committee is reluctant to include apostrophes in official place names, established the standard spelling of "Harpers Ferry" by 1891.

By far, the most important event in the town's history was John Brown's raid on the Harpers Ferry Armory in 1859.

Prior to the Civil War, Harpers Ferry was first and foremost an industrial village during the 19th century. Harpers Ferry was a manufacturing town as well as a major transportation hub. (See Virginius Island and Harpers Ferry Armory.)

The lower town has been reconstructed by the National Park Service. It was in ruins at the end of the Civil War, not helped by later river flooding.

Our STR is located in the beautiful historic Bolivar, surrounded by Harpers Ferry. 🏞️ The citizens of Bolivar chose to name their town for the South American revolutionary leader Simón Bolívar. 

Founded in 1825, the same year that Simón Bolívar carried the Republic of Bolivia to independence, the town gained autonomy by means of the Virginia Assembly. Bolivar is known for the Battle of Bolivar Heights, its townspeople, and their unequivocal contributions to war efforts during the Civil and World Wars.

We have had some unwelcomed water in our STR suite during our torrential downpours recently. Fortunately, the hosts are pretty handy and put in a dry river that will route the water away from inundating the space! We spent the weekend making some incredible changes to the front yard. Before and after photos coming soon!! 🤩⛏️⛈️ (We even got to test it out with a quick storm system after our work was complete!)
