Happy New Year!

Lots of happenings this month at Walt Disney World! One of the lesser known festivals, Festival of the Arts begins MLK weekend! Just in time for the Castle Bound agent conference and retreat!

My grandfather, Erlon “Bucky” Broomhall passed away early this morning. If you knew him, you were lucky. He was a loving, vibrant, phenomenal man. He gave me more love in my 38 years than I can even describe.

I’ve been quiet this last month as I spent a lot of time traveling up and back to Vermont to be with him. Time well spent.

The Grand Floridian gingerbread house is open for their 25th year at Walt Disney World! You’ll find this located right in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The gingerbread house is an annual tradition where the gingerbread house doubles as a market selling holiday baked goods!

The display features white chocolate candy canes, edible snowflakes, sugar poinsettias and an 88-pound white chocolate Santa. There is over 10,000 pieces of gingerbread, baked with 1050 pounds of honey, 800 pounds of flour and 600 pounds of confectioners’ sugar. The decorations include 700 pounds of chocolate. There are 25 hidden Mickeys on the display in honor of the 25th anniversary this season.

Prices range from $5.79 to $24.99 for items ranging from single cookies to breads. The amazing Gingerbread house is $94.99.

My agency asked us to think about when it happened, when we became Disney people, the first time we knew the magic, when we knew it was central to our story.

It started for me in 1993. My dad worked for IBM and he traveled to a conference every January for work. What the heck!? Why did he go and I didn’t? We couldn’t swing the cost at the time, but the promise was there. My mom’s cousin passed away in the fall of 1992 and he left her some money in his will. My parents, my maternal grandmother and I got to plan our first trip.

We stayed around Dixie Landing, now Port Orleans Riverside. We were hooked, I mean absolutely enamored with everything! This was just the start. We started going every year, finding our family favorite hotel, Wilderness Lodge (The OG of Disney resorts if you ask me) and eventually joined the Disney Vacation Club in 2003 as members at Beach Club Villas.

They say home is a feeling, not a place. This is both true and not true for me. Walt Disney World is a feeling for me, peace, happiness, relaxation, anticipation, and now as I watch my kids; pure joy. It’s also a place, a sprawling property with endless memories of the past and the promise of future ones.

I really have my parents to thank for giving me the gift of Disney. It’s a very happy part of my childhood that I’ve carried into adulthood to share with my three children.

I wish I had photos from 1993, but this is the oldest photo I have on my phone from Disney, my husband and I in 2016, little did we know our first son was in tow 🙂 A few other favorites of the today.

As Walt says, “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it all started with a mouse”. Thanks for everything Walt!

What to bring to Walt Disney World is definitely one of my most asked questions! Every visit is filled with people at different stages in life, so not all of these may apply to you!

MY TOP ESSENTIALS:

✨Reusable straws. You know how paper straws disintigrate? Well, the ones at Disney do it almost instantly!

✨Ponchos. The Florida weather goes from pristine sunshine to downpours, sometimes with a moments notice. Do NOT get caught without disposable ponchos!

✨Comfortable walking shoes. Walking the parks really isn’t the time for a fashion sneaker or a new shoe. Really sturdy and broken in walking shoes are essential for a successful visit to the parks!

On my last trip to Disney I dined at one of my all time favorite restaurants, The Boathouse Orlando in Disney Springs. I was able to use the Disney Dining plan to cover this delicious meal! This is a two credit redemption meal. I was under the weather the day before and had an extra credit I had not used for dinner and decided to apply it to this slam dunk restaurant! I enjoyed the famous Duck, Duck, Razz to start, the vegetarian pasta (available with add one) and the crown jewel- the blackberry cheesecake! We came, we conquered, we rode Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! I am elated that we were able to get on this ride during a sunny afternoon! We used a front row seat and we got soaked! I loved this ride replacement for Splash Mountain. The theming definitely has that Disney difference!
