Great first day of Guineafowl x February vacation hiking camp! It was a perfect crisp winter day at the Blue Hills - microspikes and exospikes worn by all, hiking packs with insulated hydration tubes also carried by all! Kids were warm, safe and comfortable all day! We LOVE helping people of all ages get outside and explore - especially young people!

Yesterday’s Guineafowl x beginner ice climbing clinic was a blast! Guineafowl and our clients are so fortunate to benefit from IMCS’s amazing instructors getting everyone outfitted and trained up on belaying, tying in, and of course - ICE CLIMBING!

If you’ve ever wanted to try this exciting sport, this is the way to do it! None of our clients had ever ice climbed before and everyone crushed it! You can too! Our next clinic is Saturday March 15th - sign up on Guineafowl’s website!

FACT ONE: everyone looks cool as heck in climbing gear. FACT TWO: we’re partnering with our buds at to co-lead Hiking and Ice Climbing Adventures this winter! Join us on Feb 15th and/or March 15th for a joint expedition between IMCS and Guineafowl Adventure Co. We’re providing round-trip transportation from Greater Boston as well as all needed gear for the hike to our climbing location; from there, IMCS will provide an overview on the basic of ice climbing with an expert guide as well as all the necessary equipment. November’s tough, friends—that lack of day light hits hard. Need some fresh mountain air and a weekend adventure to stave off the pre-winter blues? We’ve got just the thing. Join us on Saturday, November 30th for the next summit in our 4,000 Footers Club: Mt. Pierce!

Mt. Pierce is often the first 4,000 footer that hikers ascend, so if you’re looking for a good introduction to colder-weather hiking, this is a great outing to join us on! There’s a reasonable chance we’ll even get some ice and snow at the top—a nice break from stick season monotony.

We had every possible weather and hiking condition on a guided trip across Frankenstein Cliffs and down to Arethusa Falls this weekend. Wind, rain, frozen rain, snow (!!!), muddy trails, full sun, gloomy autumnal vibes, and dramatic moody skies. It felt like everything all at once. Our client experienced snowliage (snow + foliage 😉) for the very first time and just couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. Sometimes the transition from fall to winter is a little uneven. No matter how many hours (and it’s thousands, friends!) our guided rack up in the White Mountains, we still find new experiences and conditions. What a hike! Enjoy the last of autumn while you can.

🚨🍁 Foliage update, friends! Here’s the intel from our exploring the last week or so: it’s just past peak in the Northern Presidentials and allll that wind this weekend definitely knocked a fair amount of leaf volume down. If you haven’t gotten out for a foliage drive or hike yet, *do it now* as by the end of this weekend we’ll be fully past peak foliage! Stick to the south and east of the White Mountain National Forest and slightly lower elevations. What a beautiful time of year!! 🍁🍂

Time for a GuineafowlFunFact (GFF™)!! Amongst our guiding staff we have *two* dogs named Pemi. While this is a pretty funny coincidence, we also imagine it’s a pretty common dog name for folks like us that spend an inordinate amount of time running around the White Mountains. Look at these two absolute units enjoying the sun 😎🐕

Another marathon Monday in the books! It’s always so inspiring to watch the entire Boston area come together to support and cheer on these incredible athletes. And a great reminder, whether you’re a pro runner or just getting out for a casual walk, that moving your body and getting fresh air does a world of good!

Making sure that all skill levels feel comfortable, safe, and supported is a big part of what we do—and requires experienced guiding staff with exceptional athletic abilities. Our very own Serra, Guineafowl Adventure Co guide and an accomplished ultrarunner, was recently interviewed on The Apex Lifestyles Podcast. Hosted by @bobgdmd1 and @authordennisv, Apex Lifestyles explores what it means to cultivate a life that resonates with your own definition of excellence. Serra talked about some of her most grueling and memorable ultra races, the transition from “casual” running to ultra running, and (of course!) about her White Mountain guiding with Guineafowl. “Greening of the Whites” by our friends over at @explorenewenglandfilms just re-aired on NESN! This awesome episode of Explore New England Television features Guineafowl Adventure Co founder, Dave Fatula, leading a spring hike up to Arethusa Falls. Dave talked about some Leave No Trace tips for mud season hiking (it’s coming soon, y’all!), how quickly conditions can change at elevation, and the perspective shift between our daily lives and slowing down to be present for the natural world that he still feels on every single hike. Same, kid. Same. We had a great (and surprisingly snowy!) hike on Mount Pemigewasset last week with our Outdoor Explorers students from Acera School in Winchester, Mass. Acera offers their students the unique opportunity to participate in non-classroom “creativity stations” every Wednesday across all grade levels. For the last ten weeks, we’ve been spending Wednesdays with Acera students on local hikes learning about outdoor skills and Leave No Trace—culminating in a full-day, guided hike in the White Mountains. Last weekend we summited Kearsarge South with @arlingtoncommunityed’s Winter Hiking Club. Conditions were variable and icy—but with the proper gear it was an absolute hoot!

Check out this incredible undercast just as we summited Mt. Lafayette on Thursday! It’s been a challenging winter in terms of weather, snow coverage, and conditions… but wow was this worth the hike 🤩
