Some weird facts about a giraffes tongue…
1. **Color**: Giraffe tongues are typically dark blue or purple. This coloration helps to prevent sunburn as they spend a lot of time with their tongues extended while feeding.

2. **Length**: A giraffe’s tongue can be up to 18-20 inches (45-50 cm) long, allowing them to reach high into trees to pull leaves and shoots from branches.

3. **Prehensility**: The tongue is prehensile, meaning it can grasp and hold objects. This helps giraffes strip leaves from branches with great dexterity.

4. **Toughness**: The tongue is tough and covered with papillae (small, finger-like projections) and thick saliva, which protect it from thorns and sharp edges of leaves from their preferred acacia trees.

5. **Taste**: Giraffes have fewer taste buds than humans, with estimates ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 compared to about 9,000 in humans. This might help them eat a variety of plants that may not taste good to other animals.

6. **Saliva**: Their saliva is antiseptic, which helps heal any wounds they might get from eating thorny plants.

These features make the giraffe’s tongue an extraordinary tool for their feeding habits and survival
