Our Story
We do products about blacks who formed communities in Boston’s 17th century. When a cargo ship named Desire docked in 1638, it was carrying a small group of Africans from Angola and other African nations eight years after the City of Boston was established. Imagine that! Dorcas de Blackamore, an Angloean woman was one of them. She learned to speak English better than her Puritan owners. She was amazing. Baptized in a Dorchester church, she was the mother of kids she had with another black she met. They were not given permission to marry. Their story is one of many accounts about the first Africans and their immediate descendants to expose. It must be done because there is no General Society of Boston African Descendants like there is in Plymouth, MA where the records of Pilgrims who established Plymouth Colony are intact.
