Here's a brief description of this year's case for those interested in joining SUMT for this upcoming season:
The first civil case of the 2016-2017 season is Riley Winter v. TBD Inc. The plaintiff, Riley Winter, is suing TBD Inc. for wrongful termination on the grounds of age discrimination. Winter claims that the CEO of TBD, Sawyer Shaw, fired Winter due to Winter's age, as Winter was the oldest employee at the time of Winter's termination, while Shaw and TBD Inc. argue that Winter's writing style and popularity were the reasons for Winter's release. This year's case involves the issues of discrimination on the basis of age, the dilemma of quality content vs popularity in media, the role employment has on the well-being in an employee's life, and the system of at-will employment, as well as other issues that affect our everyday lives and that are prevelant in the field of litigation.
