Haiti Off Roads is a unique program designed for young professionals as well as university students desire to create a different college and graduate, and professional experience tailored to their interests, goals, and field of study. It provides possibilities and opportunities for hands-on experience, service-learning, and volunteering while exploring critical aspects of the history, politics, cu
lture, and economic and social developments in Haiti, from both external and internal perspectives. Started in 2012 as Haiti Adventures, Haiti Off Roads, as the new name indicates, is broadening travel as engagement and awareness catalyst. By its interactive design, it facilitates professionals as well as students’ understanding of Haiti through immersion into culture, environment, language, and the country’s economic, political and social realities. Haiti Off Roads is a capacity building and social research tank working as an incubator that uses travel to foster exploratory research and educate people on environmental and ecosystem issues in and of Haiti while creating sustainable infrastructures. The program works with communities on various initiatives, programs, and projects. It uses a unique model: exploration, sharing learning, collaborative research, capacity building, research and knowledge networks, and scaling outcomes through an integrated and sustainable approach to community-based management of ecosystems services. It works as the nexus of community and society, cultures and economies, and development and ecosystems.
