Our customer Don S. had a lot to say about his first-time Pompeiian trip this past month, along with some awesome snapshots to share:

⭐ Our tour lead by Benedicto was excellent. Everything went as advertised: we were emailed train tickets the day before, met at Roma Termini by a representative, and then again by Benedicto in Napoli Termini, taken by private coach from the station to Pompeii, and then on to lunch. Although I had thought it might be rushed, the times allocated seemed excellent.

⭐ Benedicto’s knowledge and passion for the subject was matched by his enthusiasm for engaging with our group of 16. We were fortunate to have excellent weather in and the crowds on a Saturday in December were manageable with only short waits to see specific locations within the vast archeological site. Apparently, crowds in summer can be overwhelming and can greatly limit what visitors can see.

⭐ The cuisine and wine after the archeology were delightful, as was the opportunity to meet some of our fellow travelers with whose company we continued to enjoy on the trip back to Rome.

Have you explored Rome's Trastevere neighborhood?

This colorful quartiere (neighborhood in Italian) is a funky, bohemian quarter that clings to its centuries-old, working-class roots. Trastevere is known for its traditional trattorias, craft beer pubs, artisan shops, centuries old churches, and decorated walls with street art.

From the early morning coffee to evening passeggiata and late-night pizza, a mixed crowd can be found around Piazza di San Calisto and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." In our case, a journey up to the Dome of St Peter’s Basilica will take 551 steps (only 320 for those who take the lift), but once on top you’ll understand why it’s worth it.
Here are some interesting facts 💬

▪️It’s the tallest dome in the world - 136m/448ft, with an internal diameter of 42 meters.
▪️It was designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti, who worked on it from the 1546 until he died in 1564.
▪️When Michelangelo died, Giacomo Della Porta, with Domenico Fontana,
were commissioned to finish the project, that became real in 1590.

Our customer Christina E. visited the Vatican with our fantastic tour guide Massimo last week...Here's what she had to say:

Our tour of the Vatican Museums with Massimo gave us the best first impression of our visit to Rome and the Vatican City❗

Massimo was very specific and fun at the same time! We found the tour very educational. We learned many things about the history of the Vatican museums, and the cost was totally worth it❗

Special thanks again to Massimo, to whom we got to enter the Sistine Chapel almost at the last minute, as he was late in being informed that it would be urgently closed earlier❗

Ah, the Befana!

The "La Befana" holiday is celebrated in Italy on January 6th, which is the Feast of the Epiphany. It's a day when the Befana, a kind-hearted old witch, is said to visit children all over Italy. According to folklore, she flies on her broomstick, enters homes through the chimney, and leaves gifts and sweets for well-behaved children while leaving coal or dark candy for those who have misbehaved.

The day marks the end of the Christmas season in Italy, and it's a time for families to come together, share a special meal, and exchange gifts. Do you participate in this public holiday?

We are kicking off the new year strong thanks to our customer Tricia Olona for leaving a five-star review:

"Without a doubt, the best tour company and value in Italy. We took three tours with italiatours each and every one of the tour guides is absolutely amazing. We booked private tours, and I wouldn't have changed a thing. The level of personal attention that we received was amazing. Vince and Alex were funny and attentive. Arianna was so full of information and answered our questions attentively. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone visiting Italy. Their attention to detail exceeded my expectation."
