Thanks, Southern Hospitality Magazine for spotlighting our sweetest BG native! 🎂

Yesterday, Southern Hospitality Magazine was on the road, and it completely slipped our mind that it was Bowling Green, Kentucky's native son Duncan Hines' 144th birthday.

Before lending his name to a box of cake mix in the 1950s, Hines was a traveling salesman, a profession that would eventually lead him to become one of America's first and most celebrated travel and food writers. While on the road, he sought out the best and most affordable meals in each place he visited and began sharing reviews in Christmas card messages to his friends and colleagues, which would eventually lead to a series of guidebooks.

In Bowling Green, visitors can see the former home and office of Duncan Hines (now Hardy and Son Funeral Home). The site is also where the Duncan Hines Scenic Byway begins and ends ~ https://www.visitbgky.com/duncanhines/scenic-byway . There's also The Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University's "Recommended by Duncan Hines" exhibit, https://www.wku.edu/kentuckymuseum/exhibits/exhibits.php .

For those seeking to celebrate Hines by indulging in a sweet treat or two, Bowling Green has that covered, with places such as Riley's Bakery, The Pie Queen of BG, and Chaney's Dairy Barn, among others.

Make plans to attend Duncan Hines Days, June 3 - 9, https://duncanhinesdays.com .
