So, How did we suddenly get all these Murals? 😍😍😍
Well, here's the full story!
This project was an initiative of the Mecklenburg County Tourism Office; utilizing funding from an ARPA allotment by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. One of the allowances for this funding was to build new Tourism product, that would help drive visitation, and in-turn, help localities recover form the pandemic. Having very little public art on display in Mecklenburg, the Tourism Office set out to build an entire mural trail! (we like to go BIG!)
We began work by seeking artists through a bid process to which there was tremendous response! We eventually landed on a very talented pair of young ladies from South Carolina who call themselves GWP Murals.
From there we went to work with each town to come up with designs that were meaningful, had a story to tell and most of all, were interactive! Once the design phase was complete, the GWP arrived and immediately began work. TEN days later - we had our complete mural trail made up of SIX Interactive Murals! 🥳
This project was a 6-month long process and required a great deal of planning, but with great partners & great artists, we created something very special for our communities and visitors alike to enjoy for years to come!
On Monday May 20th, I will have the privilege of designating each site through a ribbon cutting ceremony, inducting all 6 murals to our very first mural trail! I hope you can make it (see an earlier post with invitation details) and tour the trail with us!
We are very excited about the energy this project has generated, along with the desire to grow the mural trail with even more murals! (Stay-Tuned!) We will be releasing promotional campaigns and more interactive / informational components of the trail, as well as a digital passport system, where you will be able to collect "stamps" at each site and earn prizes for completing the trail!

Here’s a mid day update from the Town of LaCrosse, Va.! Mural #6 has a very cool story to tell about a very famous celebrity with ties to the town! Can you guess who? Ok, I’ll give you one hint: her famous line was: “How-Dee!”
