Resilient Riverfront Communities Rallies Together After Devastating Flood
Marineland, FL – August 13, 2024 – The recent flood along the Braden River has tested the resilience of our beloved Marineland, a 1920's community along side of other historical communities along the Braden River. Generational homes, docks and bulkheads, some built with the hands of our neighbors, have faced unprecedented challenges. Yet, in the face of adversity, our community’s spirit remains unbroken.
Despite the hardships, many of our neighbors will recover with the support of community efforts and insurance. However, some residents, particularly those without insurance, have lost structures they painstakingly built themselves. The sight of water-damaged belongings lining the curbs and homes being "dried out" is a stark reminder of the flood’s impact.
Our community has shown incredible strength and unity. The Jiggs Landing benefit hosted by Steve Arvey, held last Saturday, saw a great turnout. Many coming together to support those affected. We continue to collect and distribute donations of essential items such as water, hydrating beverages, paper towels, and bathroom paper to aid in the recovery efforts.
As you drive through our neighborhoods, you may see Moe and Jack navigating through streets filled with sand and standing water. Their presence bearing essential items to those not able to leave their home, is a testament to the ongoing reality of the sudden flood and the resilience of our community. If you stop by Jiggs Landing, say hello to Mary Ann and Dwayne, who both worked hard to organize the donations.
We ARE that river front community. We help each other. We raise each other. Together, we will rebuild and emerge stronger.
