over the 9 years the SCF biotech program has existed, so many of our students and graduates have been moms. We want to recognize how many scientists mom’s have done so much to make things better for their kids and the next generation of scientists. Mom’s make the best lab managers! All our students are great, but juggling being a mom and learning how to purify proteins, create recombinant DNA, and do dillutions In their sleep needs to be commended.

I want to take a moment and acknowledge the three recipients of the SCF outstanding biotech graduate for 2020. These students demonstrated skill in the lab, excellent mentorship of new students, academic achievement and scientific curiosity and initiative throughout the program. These are the hall marks of successful scientists no matter what their level.

This year there were three qualified graduates that were too close to call, and it was a true pleasure to have such a set of strong students in the program. I would like to congratulate Aubrey, Cara and Krissy on their past and future achievements.

Biotech students at SCF who have uploaded data to genbank on newly identified organisms as part of the Tiny earth microbiology program!

Each year students gain skills and experience in the SCF biotech program that puts them ahead in their goals. In this case a job a biotech company, a future nurse, and a transfer student at a top liberal arts school.

The two guys on the ends are just there to help and mentor. 😉 .
