The Trails at Jakes Rocks provide mountain bikers with a wide degree of challenges, from the gentler loop of the Tuttletown and Coal K**b trails to the one-way, epic Blacksnake gravity trail. With more than 35 miles of networked trails, Trails at Jakes Rocks is an experience every mountain biker needs to ride. Not much of a mountain biker? Join and support your local trail clubs. Trails at Jakes Rocks was built from love, sweat, hard work, blood, tears, and perseverance. A project that was brought to fruition with over 15 years of planning. It takes a village to get these trails complete. The Marilla Trail Race, Saturday, September 28 takes runners through the rolling hills and dense forest near the Marilla Reservoir in Bradford, PA. The race is great for beginners and hard-core trail runners and features a variety of terrain.

All proceeds from the Marilla Trail Race will go to benefit the Tuna Valley Trail Association and their ongoing commitment to the development and maintenance of trails locally in the Tuna Valley. For more information visit www.marillatrailrace.com.

Put on your flannel, grab a mug and join the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum for an evening of lumberjack competitions, beer, music, food and FUN! Watch up to 15 semi-professional lumberjacks compete in 6 different events for cash prizes as administered by members of the PA Professional Lumberjack Organization.

Straub Beer will be on site to serve a variety of their beers for attendees to enjoy. Live music will be performed by The Hey!Makers and two food trucks will be serving tasty eats. With almost 20,000 bears in Pennsylvania, there is always a possibility of encountering one or more in the Allegheny National Forest region. Here are some tips to keep any potential encounter a positive one.

* Don't feed the wildlife
* Keep a clean campsite
* Do not store food or any scented items in your tent
* Do not leave food unattended at a campsite
* Use bear-resistant food storage containers or hang food in a bear bag
* Do not store garbage at your campsite. Use a designated dumpster
* While dispersed camping, cook and store food away from your sleeping area

Always remember YOU are responsible for your own safety and those around you.

Marilyn Horne, the legendary mezzo-soprano is turning 90 and you are invited to this special event at the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, October 12 from 10 am to 1 pm. Enjoy personal stories, musical tributes, and heartfelt reflections in an intimate setting as we celebrate her remarkable legacy in the world of classical music.

Events include a tour of the Marilyn Horne Museum, Panel discussion and Q&A with Dr. Angela Lewis Houle, Michael Benchetrit, Matthew D. Hileman, Barbara Hocher and moderated with Dr. Jeffrey Johnson.

Crook Farm Old Time Music Festival brings together Old Time acoustic musicians for four days of jams, August 22 - 25 at the historic Crook Farm in Bradford, PA.

The Horse Drawn Wagon Rides ARE BACK at the Elk Country Visitor Center just south of the Allegheny National Forest Region.

Rides will start this Friday, August 23rd.
▪️ Rides will typically run from Thursdays through Mondays.
▪️ $20 / Person - Infants under 12 months are FREE.
▪️ Each guest may only reserve up to 4 tickets.
▪️ Ride is about 45 minutes.
▪️ This ride does NOT guarantee to see Elk as they are free roaming.
Reservations will begin the DAY OF the ride starting at 10AM. In person tickets will be sold first, then over the phone reservations.

Walk a mile in Trail Central's shoes, you'll end up at the 4th Annual Kane Wine Walk, tomorrow in uptown Kane, PA. This fun-filled event benefits the Chamber of Commerce of the Kane Area Development Center and features businesses along Fraley and Field Streets hosting local wineries for tastings.
Time: Sign up for a time slot of 12 – 3 p.m. or 3 – 6 p.m. (See instructions below*)
Location: Check in at the O.G. Crawford Amphitheater (92 N. Fraley Street). You will be given a store to start and a map of all locations.
Cost: $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event.

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Check out this FREE fun event offered by the Forest Service... if you can find it?

Orienteering is the sport of navigation—often held in unfamiliar terrain—using a map and compass. It's easy to learn and a fun way to exercise your body and mind as you enjoy the outdoors. This is a Ranger-led program about the basics of orienteering in Allegheny National Forest is open to the public on Saturday August 17, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hearts Content Recreation Area near Tidioute.

This program will utilize the intermediate orienteering course, considered to be moderately difficult. Approximately two miles of hiking is expected, primarily on-trail, with short off-trail portions. Maps and compasses will be provided.
Discussion of the Leave No Trace Principles will be included to provide a framework of minimum impact practices while exploring the outdoors.
Wear weather-appropriate clothing, hiking boots or shoes, and bring insect protection and water. Participants should meet no later than 9:50 a.m. in the Hearts Content parking area.

Trail Central had the opportunity to visit Kinzua Bridge State Park & Skywalk early Tuesday morning to capture the Perseid Meteor Shower. Thank you to DCNR Staff there to answer all of our questions and lead such a fun program.

A FREE event you won't want you to miss at the Kinzua Bridge State Park. Join staff at 4 A.M. for the Perseids Meteor Showers on August 13. The Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August, and is considered the best meteor shower of the year. This program is weather dependent and will be cancelled for rain or extreme cloud coverage.
