Breckenridge Ski Resort Update

Breckenridge’s 5 Peaks are all open! There is plenty of fresh powder for all on the nearly 3,000 acres of skiable terrain.

And many new improvements make it less congested so it can excel as a World-Class destination ski resort…check it out!

The New Freedom SuperChair on Peak 7

It's not every year a resort gets a brand-new chairlift!During Breck's 60th anniversary season, a brand-new chair created a classic pair on Peak 7 – Freedom and Independence.Located on the north side of Peak 7, and running alongside the existing Independence SuperChair, the Freedom SuperChair provides guests the opportunity to experience the wide-open and rolling terrain of Peak 7 in a whole new way.The lift provides skiers and riders with another option for lapping terrain on lower Peak 7 and is a game-changer for Breck's interconnected, peak-to-peak experience, providing skiers and riders an easy way to navigate from Peak 6 to Peaks 7 and 8.
The new Freedom SuperChair was built during the summer of 2021 and it opened to the public in December of 2021.

Rip's Ride Upgrade: Faster Lift | More Time to Learn

On the heels of installing the brand-new Freedom SuperChair on Peak 7, this summer the focus turns to Peak 8 and Rip’s Ride.Currently a fixed-grip double chair, this summer the resort will replace the lift with a new, high-speed quad to enhance the beginner and ski and ride school experience on Peak 8. The newer, faster ride will provide guests with quick access to Peak 8’s learning terrain allowing for more time spent on the snow. In addition, a slight realignment to the upper terminal location will allow for easier and more convenient access to ski and ride from Rip’s Ride over to Peak 9.

The 2018/19 Ski Season kicks off in Summit County!

Leaders from the main Summit County ski areas, Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, and Copper came together to unofficially kick-off the 2018/19 season with the Summit Chamber of Commerce's annual Chief Operating Officer breakfast.

The COOs gave presentations previewing changes to look forward to at their ski areas this season. Highlights from their presentation were:

BRECKENRIDGE - John Buhler, COO of Breckenridge Ski Resort, highlighted in his presentation Breck's new branding campaign, "The Breck Effect," aimed at the 20s/30s demographic and promoting the Breck experience as one with excitement and energy, with "real social connections" and an adventure "bigger than themselves."

Buhler also promoted Breck's high alpine terrain, a new early season entertainment event to take place in November and new restaurant concepts at the resort.

Breck has also committed to go "zero net operating footprint" by 2030, which means zero net emissions and zero net impact on forests and habitats.

Opening Day is scheduled for November 9, 2018.

KEYSTONE - Keystone Resort general manager Geoff Buchheister promoted Keystone's family-friendly brand, and that Ski Magazine had declared Keystone to be the top family-friendly ski resort for 2019. Buchheister noted how technology was consuming young people's lives, and Keystone aimed to provide a venue that brought the family together to talk and bond.

Aside from introducing a new surface lift at overrun, a Kidtopia event series aimed at children and other small upgrades, Buchheister unveiled "Emma," an AI assistant app developed by Vail Resorts. Emma will be able to help guests navigate the resort and find dining options and other information to enhance their guest experience.

Emma will be rolled out at Keystone first, and will eventually be used at all Vail Resorts properties.

COPPER MOUNTAIN - Copper Mountain Resort was represented by SVP Jesse True. True highlighted the many changes going on at Copper, including two new lifts — the new American Eagle, with six-person chairs and the eight-person gondola cabins, and the new American Flyer, which will feature six-person bubble chairs.

Copper is also undergoing a whole lot of construction, with a new entrance monument, revamped parking lots, a new flagship Hyatt hotel, the new Rocky Mountain coaster, and numerous new bar and restaurant options. Copper has also joined the Ikon pass, which gives access to 36 ski areas.

A-BASIN - Arapahoe Basin Ski Area COO Alan Henceroth presented next. Henceroth promised that A-Basin would once again have the longest season of all the resorts, keeping lifts running from October to June. Henceroth also touted A-Basin's new Beavers and Steep Gullies terrain expansion, adding 468 new acres with 34 new runs. A-Basin also underwent a $2 million kitchen renovation and will extend dinner hours into the weekend. The ski area will also open a new small 25- to 30-seat restaurant, "Il Rifiguio," promising a classy dining experience at 12,500 feet.

Henceroth affirmed that A-Basin supported 1A, while highlighting the ski area's own recycling and sustainability efforts that managed to divert 50 percent of waste from landfills to recycling last year. A-Basin also committed itself to going carbon neutral by 2025, emphasizing that climate change is a real and dire threat to the industry.

Ski Resorts are big business in Summit County. The area resorts ended their presentations throwing their support behind 1A, a mill levy that would raise $8.8 million for five different areas of need in the county. They even have the taxpayers foot the bill for Ski Area improvements! That’s powerful!

Breckenridge Ski Resort is a world-renown ski resort in a class by itself. Ski Resorts used to be rated by how many black diamond runs, high-speed lifts, and bar establishments they had but the Baby Boomers who started the trend in the US are aging gracefully; they don’t race down the Mountain like they used to!

But the Europeans define the slopes as just part of the vacation experience. In the book, Ski Europe, the rating system places high marks for the Towns they reside in as paramount for their success. They downgrade “Purpose Built Resorts” (a Resort that was built for the purpose of a ski resort) for their seasonal nature, lack of charm, history and year-round inhabitants. Proximity to a major International airport, Metropolitan area, Hospitals, Sporting Events and Entertainment venues were also important. Other activities, such as dining, non-skier activities, summer options and a year-round events schedule help round out the variables for a better vacation, besides the fun on the Mountain.

Breckenridge has it all! Close to Denver International Airport, the Denver Metropolitan area, major artery Interstate 70 & Highway 9 access, a Town as good as the skiing area, and originally a mid-to-late 1800’s Gold Rush boom-town where Victorian Era architecture still remains and the network of old mining trails has turned into hiking for year ‘round residents and visitors.

Breckenridge Colorado shares the beauty and joy of a Resort & Town combination nestled in a valley between 2 high Mountain Ranges, the Continental Divide and the Ten Mile Range, to a post card ideal atmosphere for a Resort community that thrives and is growing in International popularity! The Town of Breckenridge & Breckenridge Ski Resort has something for everyone. With year ‘round special events, and skiing half the year that crowds the calendar, the liveliness creates a buzz that liven up the area both night and day, Winter, Summer, Spring & Fall. The Resort includes popular terrain parks and competitive Snowboarding facilities that make it noted across the globe for snowboarders, in addition to being the #1 destination ski resort in North America. The High Alpine altitude creates a picture-perfect ski season that starts in early November and extends to the end of April. Who could ask for more of your favorite Ski Resort & Resort Town?

Summers are a refuge for family vacationers seeking the Mountains. Plus a vacation venue for near-by desert, high plains and City Dwellers to escape the Dog Day’s of Summer in a peaceful destination surrounded by Mountains, yet away from the busy traffic on Interstate 70. Hiking, biking, rafting, golf, sightseeing, shopping, dining and off-road vehicle action are all popular and plentiful options that have made a trip to Summit County in the summer a growing hot-spot!

So plan your ever anticipated trip to the Breckenridge Area never-Neverland today and have the trip of your dreams!

Make this the year of your DCT or dream come true! All the resorts are viable skiing options close to your dream vacation-home rental, 12SunnySlope! While in the area, stay at the recently designated “Premier Property” of HomeAway-Vrbo.com’s travel accommodation website!
