๐น Not All Roses Are Meant for Your Garden๐น
We know that this is reeeeaally hard to hear, but not every rose variety may be the right fit for every garden. While some roses are widely popular and absolutely gorgeous in photos, some can be high-maintenance divas that demand constant attention and care or simply do not thrive in certain climatic regions ๐ฌ๐
The (hard) truth is that selecting roses should be about more than appearances alone. It's crucial to consider factors like your local climate, soil factors, and time/effort you're willing to invest (or not!) in upkeep โ๏ธ
For instance, many rose varieties with full, cabbage-y blooms may not fair as well in high-humidity regions. These bloom forms are at a higher risk of balling, which can require more deadheading and less enjoyable bloom time as opposed to those planted in a dryer climate. On the other hand, many species roses and those bred with antique/species characteristics (like our Pioneer Roses!) tend to fair well in high heat/humidity locations.
โจ๏ธPro Tip:โจ๏ธ Do your research or ask your local nursery (hey, that's us! ๐) about which rose varieties will thrive in your specific conditions.
So before you commit on a rose that looks beautiful, but miiiiight be a handful, consider the individual needs of your garden (and yourself).
What's your experience?? Do you have a rose variety that you regret planting, or one you absolutely live because it's so easy to care for? Share your thoughts in the comments! ๐๐
Watch the reel, pick your color, and share in the comments which rose symbolizes you best! Tag a friend to see theirs too ๐นโจ๏ธ

๐Ways to support native bees๐ (and many of these also apply to European Honey Bees as well!):
๐น Select plant varieties native to your climatic location, and when rose shopping, choose rose varieties that have open stamens to support pollinators. Varieties such as Always Hope, Always Dream, and Coles Settlement are great examples and are all available on our website!
๐น Leave fallen logs, leaves, and plant debris through the winter as you can, as these are important nesting sources for native bees, moths, and fireflies!
๐น Use no-till methods in your garden to allow underground native bee larvae to develop into adult bees
๐น Build or buy nesting homes for solitary bees such as leaf cutter bees, Mason bees, and more. We offer bee nesting homes at our Nursery and Display Gardens Gift Shop!
๐น Avoid pesticides, ESPECIALLY around blooming flowers! Pesticide usage has decimated the numbers of all bee species worldwide. Try using a "bee-safe" option or avoid pesticides altogether, opting instead for natural options such as trap crops, companion planting, beneficial insects, etc.
What are YOUR favorite methods to support native bee species??
