Winter Fisheries. From November to March, trout typically seek refuge in slower runs and deep pools for overwintering. These areas offer the trout an abundance of food with minimal energy expenditure. It's advisable to steer clear of fast riffles, runs, and rapids during this period, as they tend to have fewer fish. While riffles are excellent feeding spots in the summer when trout have a heightened metabolism and actively seek well-oxygenated water, winter conditions cause a slowdown in activity.
