Remember when AAPRCO convention trips would take 6 days to get to the destination city on track never seen by private rail cars?. All the while with Jim Larson at the helm. He was a master and knew every route, switch, alternate route. There was never a question he couldn't answer. And answer correctly. R.I.P. Jim. Then we spent 3 days at the convention city. Open house was a gas with everyone laughing or talking about trips they've taken. A tradition which still goes on to this day are the tenderloin sliders which happen in the after hours party on the Sky and Dreams. There were always a couple of hours for a crew party at a park or lakeside after shopping, cleaning, scrubbing trucks, washing windows, and laundry. After the convention festivities there would be another 4 or 5 days to get home again going 40 mph through nowhere land. All the while being towed by Amtrak locomotives. Now those were convention trips.!!! 2 weeks of sheer bliss.
