Cat Calling
I could list at least one uncomfortable experience in all 35 countries I’ve been to, obviously some far less (nearly at all) while others far more (with actual assault).
My point in sharing this is that the unfortunate truth, is regardless of traveling or not, women + nonbinary humans + queer folk, are often having to consider and combat unwanted and uninvited sexual or romantic attention.
I list three countries that gave me the ick in this way, but I could also list 10 reasons to check them out regardless. I can also list 32 more countries where I’ve been cat-called, ogled, or offended in some unwelcomed way. This is the battle we face. Existing is tough in a sexist world riddled with embedded patriarchal underpinnings. It knows no borders.
Simultaneously, 98% of the time while traveling solo, I feel safe. I feel strong. I feel taken care of by strangers. I feel empowered. I feel happy to be there.
What I’ve realized, it’s not about where I am in the world, it’s about how I show up in it. And it’s also about how I hold people (and predators) accountable when I when witness it first hand or from afar. That’s not to say, how we hold ourselves in the world keeps us safe, by any means. But it does scare away the ones feigning for the cheap bait of a power imbalance.
I’m working on a new episode on my Juice Queen Podcast that genuinely explores the question “Why Men” — where we gaze into the origins of this wound and observe what can we do about it (as a collective) moving forward.
I’ve also been toying with the idea of making a series of “how to travel as an empowered woman” (still working on the title, but you get my drift — suggestions welcome here).
Anywho, this is important to me, and hopefully it is to you too!
May we move forward with safety for all —
Noelle

How I don’t go f*cking Bananas While Traveling
People say: I couldn’t travel long-term or live out of one bag, it seems so chaotic!
You’re not wrong! It takes gusto for sure, and intentional grounding along the way. Over the last decade, I’ve learned to carry a spiritual-self-care-package at all times so I can lean on it when I’m feeling a little wonky.
Here are a handful of things I keep in my pack as a portable-altar-of-sorts, which helps to foster balance in my days. As someone who appreciates routine (despite what my lifestyle might lead, haha) — having little daily rituals helps me maintain my nervous system in an otherwise unpredictable way of living.
Special shout out to @the.kitty.coven, @bohlguy, @carlysowen, @callme_boo and @hellonikkisunshine for the little grounding treasures I keep on my journey 🥹
I hope this helps! Save it for the next time you’re packing 😽For more tips find my Travel Series on The Juice Queen Podcast!

🥲 hot water, I’ll miss you!!! All jokes aside, that ebb and flow of comfort is what chisels character. Plus, I should practice more cold plunge therapy anyway. Don’t forget — water of ✨any✨ temperature is a blessing and luxury 🙏🏽🥹💧 WATER IS LIFE!!!!
What are some things you’re used to having access to in your home country that you gladly let go of in the name of adventure and cultural experience?
I’ll name some more in the comments 📎📝

It’s been one full year since I paid rent. It’s also been one full year since I’ve had my own bed, house, or typical routine. My whole life fits into a backpack. I gave up people, places and practices that made me feel at peace in exchange for adventure, awe, and inspiration that made me feel purpose.
And don’t get me wrong, I understand simply even owning a US passport is a privilege. Having THE CHOICE of houselessness is a privilege. Being able to save up money beyond paycheck to paycheck is a privilege. And I will never underestimate that or take it for granted.
Simultaneously, we live in a world the average person can’t afford to rent a house, let alone buy one. People have to prove they make 4x the cost of rent per month (which happens to be $1500/person on average in Denver). Meanwhile the national minimum wage ($7.25) has hardly budged in almost 15 years. The math isn’t matching.
PEOPLE ARE DISCOURAGED AND DEPRESSED.
So I actively exchange my comforts like currency and find creative life hacks that allow me to keep my head held high even when I feel like hiding.
There is no one way to do life right. I’m going to keep bouncing and bending so that I don’t break.
Catch me exploring new ways to exist in 2024. Next stop: India on Saturday.
