Something you may or may not know about me - I used to own my own wedding planning business. I did this for about 12 years, and after our daughter came along, I couldn't give 110% so I took a couple of years off. Then I was introduced to the travel advisor career, and, having already assisted with planning honeymoons and destination weddings anyway, I realized this was a great way to help couples with that dream honeymoon. I can also assist with booking a block of rooms for the wedding using a group promo, based on eligibility.

Looking forward to photos from my couple headed to Dreams Los Cabos later this spring! They are going to have such a great time with their friends and family as they say "I do" at one of my favorite resorts. MLMs - Multi Level Marketing - these are the people that scam their way into so many industries, and create chaos that we (the legitimate travel professionals) get blamed for in the long run.

DO NOT give your money to someone with an MLM organization. First, these organizations prey on women, and typically women of color as well as those of lower economic status. It is predatory first and foremost. Second, they come at you with the "we are licensed and bonded" foolishness. Friends, there is no such thing. The governing bodies of our industry do not recognize these organizations nor their models - and bonded? Well, you need to know a lot about who a "bond" protects (hint, it is not you as a consumer). The legitimate travel professionals (like yours truly) are required to have E&O insurance - sometimes we get to pay for it twice! Like me, I am an LLC (Pixie Nikki LLC) so I have to have my own E&O, but I am also an agent under an agency umbrella, so I have to also pay my share of that E&O. That means any screw ups does not cost you, the consumer, money. (It is also why I am diligent to put "Pricing and availability are subject to change until a deposit is paid" on every quote I send you.) Third, am I on the third point yet? Third - speaking of screw ups - you know how things go in travel, regardless of who plans it. There are sometimes bumps in the road, and sometimes the road ends abruptly and you are staring off a cliff... the legitimate travel professionals in our industry (me, again) have resources to help. We have direct phone numbers/emails to resort GMs, we have sales managers (usually called BDMs for Business Development Managers) that we can get involved, we have longstanding networks of contacts to get things fixed or come up with an alternative. We have the resources because this is our career we're talking about - not a "side hustle" or a "great way to earn free trips!" (Those do not exist by the way - you pay for your travel in this industry, even if you have points or free nights.)

Look - I'll stop with this - you know that when you work with a reputable agent we have you covered. We have your best interest at heart and we want to take care of you. I have never made this about money and I never will. This is about helping you plan those vacations of a lifetime, making those memories with your loved ones, and getting to relax while someone else handles the details. I am always happy to discuss more with you one on one about any questions you have about our industry, how it works, how we are paid, etc. I am as transparent as I can be because my reputation depends on it! I appreciate your continued loyalty and support for my (legitimate) small business!!

AI continues to develop and destinations are not afraid to use it to their advantage! Know what you are booking!! When you work with me, you get personal service each step of the way. If I haven't been to a destination/resort personally, a colleague has - we are a close-knit industry! We share info, feedback, photos, pros/cons, etc. and we have a list of suppliers that allow us to reach out if there are any issues along the way.

Use a travel agent, because you don't have the internet's phone number!

Cruising is a great way to visit different destinations in a concise amount of time. There is no wonder why my cruise sales, and many of my colleagues, are way up over the past year and moving into 2025 and 2026 already.

BUT and hear me out on this - visiting a destination via a cruise stop in port for a few hours is NOT equivalent to having experienced that destination.

Here's what I hear a lot when I am looking at Caribbean land-based vacations:

Client: I want to go somewhere with XYZ and ABC and definitely DEF!
Me: You know what, Jamaica is perfect for this and I have two options that will fit your needs perfectly.
Client: No, I've already been to Jamaica.
Me: When? I don't remember us booking your vacation there.
Client: No, this was probably 15 years ago on our honeymoon. We did a cruise and stopped in Jamaica and Mexico, so I don't need to go again.
Me: You actually didn't "go" to those countries. You visited briefly for what - maybe 8 hours in port at most?
Client: Yeah, we did a little tour at that super popular touristy place everyone goes.
Me: Not the same at all!! Imagine someone coming to visit your town and you have them go to the main hub of transportation in that town. Wherever the buses or trains or whatnot would all be departing from in your town.
Client: Okay... but that is all the way on the other side of town!
Me: Exactly! So while they are at this location, find them the biggest touristy thing within a few miles. Remember, they only have a few hours to spend!
Them: Eww but that isn't really going to show them our town at all. There aren't any good places to eat, and the cultural center of the town is too far away, so they won't get to experience all the things that make my town great!
Me: Exactly. All of this is exactly why I say you didn't "go" to that destination when stopping at the cruise port for the day!

So cruising is still awesome! And a great way to do and see a lot. But it is not a way to experience all that a country has to offer. For that, a land based vacation is the best option. How to decide? That's why you have me!! Let's discuss your options!

Just getting home with one dog and two kittens (the girls we rescued in July were spayed today). Good news all around, Molly just needs a cleaning, not dental surgery. What we were thinking was a crack on one tooth, and another tooth breaking, was actually just a tartar shell on both that he feels he can take care of in a cleaning. Thankful for good news because she's nearly 14.

Clients - apologies for the delay in response today! I ended up having an emergency filling earlier this afternoon. Now I have to take one of our dogs to the vet for an emergency appointment for a cracked tooth! Not sure what is up with teeth in this household today, but not a good day so far!!

If you haven't heard from me yet, please be patient and hopefully I can get things back to normal soon!!

Southerners getting snow is the equivalent of DEFCON 1 on the movie War Games. (Okay, for the youngsters, this was a movie in the early 80s starring Matthew Broderick before he was Ferris Bueller... which may further confuse you...)

Anyway, we are getting snow or sleet or ice or all of it or none of it and tomorrow is the day. Southerners don't do snow very well. The last time it visited, the snow plow quite literally got stuck at the top of the street. This is not our forte by any means.

So what's it to you? I am here and plan to be working as usual tomorrow. What Spectrum decides to do with our internet is going to be a whole other question. And because we use them for cell phone service also, we are potentially going to be without communication just depending on how things go. We are in the country, and they usually don't bother plowing our roads, much less making us a priority for internet and cell service (or power for that matter). Don't worry, we are stocked up on our milk and bread sandwich ingredients, we'll figure it out. I just want you to know that if you reach out and I don't respond, it isn't for lack of trying. Please be patient and know that I appreciate your loyalty and support of my small business!
