Head of School Rabbi Marshall Lesack '97 connected with Akiba/Barrack alumni, past parents and grandparents, and faculty studying in Jerusalem this summer at The Shalom Hartman Institute, as well as his fellow classmates from the class of 1997.

With extreme sadness we share the recent passing of alumnus, Rabbi Andrew (Andy) Sacks '71 z'l, Akiba/Barrack former staff member and coach.

The funeral will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. East Coast) at the Menucha Nechona Cemetery in Beer Sheva, Israel.

We are thrilled and honored to congratulate Rabbi Judd Kruger Levingston, director of our Jewish studies department, on being named as a recipient of this year's prestigious Covenant Award by The Covenant Foundation, which recognizes three outstanding Jewish educators for their immeasurable contributions to the field of Jewish education.

We are so thankful for the immense impact Judd has had on our Akiba/Barrack community over two decades of service and look forward to his continued contributions. Mazal Tov!

We had the pleasure of welcoming back to campus Jordan Becker '22 after he and his fraternity brothers gained national attention for protecting the American flag on UNC's campus. He spoke with our students about his personal experience, the college campus environment and his reflections on how Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy prepared him for his future. Thank you Jordan for taking the time to share your story. We are so proud of you!

Barrack's 21st annual gala was a remarkable night dedicated to the values, history, and passion that connects us…from generation to generation. Over 400 members of our community came together last Wednesday evening to celebrate Barrack and pay tribute to our wonderful honorees, Charles H. '75 and Rachel Korman, for their exemplary commitment, leadership, and philanthropy in support of Jewish day school education, Barrack, and our greater Jewish community. We thank our gala sponsors, gala chairs, and gala committee for their role in shaping and creating such a wonderful and memorable evening, and our entire community for sharing this special evening with us.
