IT’S FEATURE FRIDAY! More than 1500 species of wildflowers are native to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, more than any other national park. The park is so well-known for its diverse flowering plants that it’s sometimes called “Wildflower National Park.”
Wildflowers bloom from late February thru September. However, the peak wildflower season is mid-to-late April when the spring ephemerals (https://www.greatsmokies.com/spring-ephemerals-are-the-big-kahuna-of-smoky-mountains-wildflowers/)
make their appearance.
Two good walking trails for viewing wildflowers are the Deep Creek trails and the River Trail at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee.
This blooming calendar gives the approximate emergence of the most popular species. The schedule is also subject to changes in weather and altitude. If in doubt, call the Park Visitor Center for current conditions. Printable PDF flower data base (https://www.greatsmokies.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/In-Bloom.pdf)

IT’S WATERFALL WEDNESDAY!
Mingo Falls is in the Qualla Boundary—a land trust of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. No special permits are required for access to the area. At 120 feet (36.6 m) tall, the waterfall is one of the tallest and most spectacular in the southern Appalachians. The hike to the waterfall is only 0.4 miles (0.6 km) in length, but is considered moderate in difficulty.
Access Trail: Pigeon Creek Trail
Trailhead: From Oconaluftee Visitor Center, drive south (toward Cherokee) on US-441 and take the second left onto Big Cove Road. At the first stop sign turn left and drive 4.5 miles (7.2 km) to Mingo Falls Campground, where the trail begins.
Winter is a season when rates are at their lowest and so is occupancy. The sky is clearer so the views are longer, the temperature is lower so the hot tub feels warmer, the fires glow brighter and the trails are quiet. Thinking about a getaway to the mountains, think January and February. We are taking bookings for next year. https://www.brysoncitycabinrentals.com/vacation-rental-home.asp?PageDataID=119827
One of our favorite down home places to eat. Food – Family – Faith. Through the problems over the past several years and the current inflationary issues the Everett Street Diner has continued to follow our guiding principles – Food is enjoyed, Family is cherished, and Faith is immutable. We’ve found that if we just continue to follow those principles, we can work through anything these uncertain circumstances throw at us.”
