We are truly blessed that Bryson City was spared the brunt of Helene. The river through town did crest and several businesses flooded but it receded the following day and most are open already. The train is running, the Nantahala river is open for rafting and all roads are open. If you have a trip planned rest assured you will have a great vacation. With the news stating that all of Western NC is closed, I wanted all to know this is not the case. Our town would love to have you and NEED you to come and support local. Thanks to all that reached out to make sure we are ok.

You can step back in time when you visit the Mountain Farm Museum and Mingus Mill. Located just inside the GSMNP boundaries from Cherokee, 30 minutes from the house, you will find a collection of original buildings found within the park that were relocated next to the Oconaluftee visitor center. The fields next to the museum are where the Elk frequently graze in the early morning and late afternoon.

The Oconaluftee area offers both a visitor center and the Mountain Farm Museum, a collection of historic log buildings gathered from throughout the Smokies and preserved on a single site.
