With the extreme temps coming next week it's important to take a few steps to help your a.c. unit work properly. Make sure you change your filters, a dirty filter makes your unit work harder to cool. If you have a condensing unit on the ground, take your hose and clean out the fins on the outside of the unit. This helps the coil dissipate the heat so your unit works easier. Don't set your thermostat so low that your unit runs constantly, this can hurt the unit. Try not to go in and out to much during the day. Remember if 80 degrees doesn't feel cool enough, go outside when it's 115 for 15 minutes and go back in, 80 degrees will feel great!

It works!!
Bathroom Scum remover
You'll need:
1/2 c. of Dawn Dishsoap (Original)
1/2 c. White Vinegar
1 spray bottle
Heat the vinegar until it's HOT, I simply put mine in a glass Pyrex measuring cup and stuck it in the microwave for 1 minute.
Pour it into a clean spray bottle, add the dawn dish soap, put the cap on and shake very gently to mix. (Or you can mix it right in the Pyrex measuring cup and pour it into the bottle
Spray liberally on the surface you wish to clean, leave it alone to do the work for 20 minutes or so. Or better yet, spray it before you go to work, and wipe it up when you come home. Once it's had a chance to work it's magic, wipe it off with a clean rag or sponge and some warm water.

Added a doggy door for one of our pups Dio while I recover from a hip replacement. Felt good to get my hands dirty again and Dio loves it. We put a kennel on the other side so he can go do his business while being protected from the other dogs. He is deaf, blind in one eye and has some health issues so we keep him well protected.

With the extreme heat coming up I thought I'd share a few tips to help that I've used over the years. First is to make sure your ac air filters are changed on your unit. Take a hose and spray off the coils on your condensing unit, the unit that sets on the ground if you have a split unit. This cleans the fins out from all the dust and debris in the air. This will help dissipate the heat. When it's in the heat of the day spray your condensing unit a every few hours, this helps cool the refrigerant. If you haven't already, clear the weeds and anything else from around your unit so you have good air flow to the condenser. Do not set your thermostat so low that your unit runs constantly, set it at 80. If 80 feels to warm inside go outside for 10minutes and 80 will feel great! Your unit is going to struggle to cool in this heat so don't put the extra strain on it. If you have an evap cooler and are able, buy some blocks of ice and put in your catch pan so your cooler has more than warm water to draw from. Heavy blankets over the windows will help block some of the heat too, especially if you're in a home with single pane windows. These are some tricks I've used over the years and they do help. Stay hydrated too, cool towels on the head and keep a hat on if you're outside. Hope these tips help everyone deal with the temps over the next week or so.

With the excessive heat warnings and record setting heat it's very important that you take a garden hose and spray off your condensing unit outside a few times throughout the day. This will help your freon cool down so your unit won't have to work as hard to dissipate the heat, this could potentially save your compressor from over heating and shutting off on you.

05/31/2015

Just a reminder, as the weather heats up and we turn on our air conditioners its a good practice to take the hose and spray off the outside of the coils on your condensing unit outside. This cleans the dirt and debris that builds up in the fins of the coil which makes the unit run harder, cost more money to run and put unnecessary stress on the compressor. It is especially important to do this when we have dust storms where a lot of dirt and debris fly through the air and gets attached to your coils. When temps get over 110 it is a good thing to spray off the coils a couple times a day, this helps cool the freon which in turn cools your house better.

You've probably seen the posts about cleaning your windows with a mixture to include Jet Dry...so you just let it air dry with no streaks....well I gave it a try...and it works! This will be so nice for our cleaning jobs! Now to go put the screens back on and put the patio back together.

Speaking of screens...I left the screens on, used a car brush with the long handle, cleaned the windows and screen rinsed, then took the screens off and re-did the windows. Screens look great too! (just have to take them off the window for the second round so that the air can get to the window to dry right)

OUTDOOR WINDOW CLEANER SOLUTION

1/2 gallon warm water

1 Tablespoon liquid ‘Jet Dry’

2-3 Tablespoons laundry or dishwasher detergent (liquid dissolves easier)

Mix above ingredients. Brush or sponge onto window, then immediately hose off window; water will sheet off, no drying necessary.
