The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Berlin. Hanami, as the blossom viewing is called in Japanese, is particularly beautiful in Berlin because of the unusually large number of cherry trees there. They were a gift from Japan when the Berlin Wall came down almost 35 years ago.

I was recently featured in an online publication. They asked about Christmas traditions, and I was happy to share the magical experience of German Christmas markets and how some traditions, e.g. the Christmas tree, are said to originate from Germany.

While it seem odd to think about Christmas in the spring, now really is the best time to start planning and booking a Christmas market tour. If it's something that has been on your mind, send me a DM, and we can explore how your Germany trip could look like.

Many places including Iceland and Scotland are some of of the best places to visit in the world in December. All these places have something unique to offer.

In the late 19th century, Bertha Benz, the wife of automobile inventor Karl Benz, embarked on a daring journey that would forever alter the course of automotive history. To support her husband's fledging career, she took the Patent-Motorwagen No. 3 on a 106-kilometer trek from the German cities Mannheim to Pforzheim to prove the vehicle's practicality and potential. Her ingenious solutions to the numerous challenges she faced along the way, including using her hatpin to clean a fuel line and her garter to insulate a wire, demonstrated the car's reliability and utility. Today, Bertha Benz's pioneering spirit and her contribution to the automobile industry are immortalized with a statue in Pforzheim, celebrating her legacy.

What would you do with 24 hours in Hamburg?

I know that I would visit the harbour again, Speicherstadt is one of my favorites, and I have yet to see the Elbphilharmonie.

I’ll stroll through some neighborhoods -Schanzenviertel and Karoviertel come to mind- and take in the vibe, have some coffee, and maybe check out some street art.
And I would go to Miniature-Wunderland - I hear such great things about it, and a movie just came out about it (see comments for link)

Have you been to Hamburg? What would you like to see? Let me know in the comments.👇

Cochem, nestled in the picturesque Mosel River Valley, truly earns its spot among the top 100 destinations. This hidden gem, less crowded and not as widely recognized as its neighbor, the Rhine River Valley, showcases breathtaking landscapes, exquisite regional wines available for tasting in charming wineries and taverns, and superb cuisine. The quaint town of Cochem, crowned by its majestic castle, exemplifies the unique allure of this region.

This is Marksburg Castle, perched above the town of Braubach on the Romantic River Rhine Built between the 13th and 15th centuries, it’s one of only two castles on the Rhine that has never been destroyed, offering an authentic window into medieval life. The castle offers tours through its authentic interior. Walk through the castle kitchen 🍲, great hall, bed-chamber, chapel, armory, wine cellar, and battlements, and imagine how life in the Middle Ages might have been.

The port in Hamburg is Europe’s second largest. It’s certainly a commercial port, and you can start your voyage on a cruise ship here, but the port’s biggest attraction is ‘Speicherstadt’.

This century-old warehouse complex, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is divided by canals and can be visited with an extended harbor tour. At nightfall, the Speicherstadt is enveloped in an aura of mystery. At that time of day, the red brick buildings and steel bridges are artfully illuminated by 800 spotlights.

Porta Negra - Roman Gate and UNESCO World Heritage Site

In AD 170, as the Romans set the first stone of the Porta Nigra, little did they know the legacy it would create. At that time, it was merely one among four city gates in Trier and among countless others across the Roman Empire. Fast forward about 1850 years, and this 'Black Gate' stands as the most excellently preserved Roman city gate in the region north of the Alps, claiming the top spot among Roman architectural marvels in today's Germany

It all started in 1737 with a perceived miracle in which tears were seen on a simple wooden figure of Christ. In the following years, so many pilgrims showed up that the Abbot of Steingarden decided to have this stunning church built.

Today, the church is a popular tourist spot in the Barvarian Alps region.
