Murphy Facts:
He hasn't been breathing properly for a month or two at least
(panting)
He has a torn ACL in his back knee which when he walks gives the appearance of a swollen "fat pad" in his hip
He started bleeding from both nostrils last week and two local vets were unable to stop it
After sitting and calming ( fireworks pills) thru the night Dana and I got it stopped temporarily.
We loaded him up with anti fungal meds, antibiotics and Vitamin K and crossed our fingers
He stopped eating
We went all the way to A&M and found out a combination of the above but they would not scope or CT SCAN him for cancers unless we committed to approximately $9600 ( 1/2 due immediately ) for full exam and hospital stay of 4 days.
Alternative was to continue meds and an additional two from them and take a wait and see approach which we are now doing.
Murph is quarantined here at home, refuses to eat but the bleeding episodes are slowing although present throughout the day.
Limited activity , heavy meds, hopefully he starts eating and prayers.
More when it happens or doesn't.

For many years we had a pair we called “ Heckle and Jeckle” . They arrived at 5:30 pm like clockwork with their unique call, to work on the latest dead tree down by the water. Then one of them lost their mate and there was only ONE for a hand full of years, and no call! … Then last night at 5:30 pm , I heard that call again. I went down to the lake and there he was …. With a little one! Proud as ever! I don’t proclaim to know the males from the females but for now, I’m glad Heckle let me know he was back with a new family! They let us film them for an hour… better pics coming… Pileated Woodpeckers, related to the presumed extinct Ivory Billed Woodpecker…Now we need a name for his new mate…. ? Any ideas! ?
