Do you love Burnsville, North Carolina's Pig & Grits Restaurant located on West Main Street? 🐷 Well, you're in luck! After being closed for nearly five years, Pig & Grits owners, Melissa and Leigh Howell, re-opened the restaurant at Mount Mitchell State Park.

The team at Mount Mitchell Cafe & Eatery is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for all dining guests. Enjoy hand-crafted sandwiches, salads, soups, and more—served with stunning mountaintop views.

Weather can change quickly at 6,684 ft. so be sure to wear layers and check Mount Mitchell Cafe and Eatery social media for operation impacts and updates. See you soon!

Burnsville's Hearth Glass & Gallery is now featured on WRAL Tar Heel Traveler.

Hearth Glass & Gallery aims to carry on the legacy of Harvey K. Littleton, the founder of the American Studio Glass Movement, by increasing education and access to glassblowing in western North Carolina.

A variety of group and individual classes are taught by local artists. Not ready for a class? Stop by and watch the glass artists at work and visit the public gallery that features nearly a dozen local glass artists. Mayland Earth to Sky Park is situated ten miles northeast of Burnsville, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The six-acre site, surrounded by mountain terrain and the Pisgah National Forest, is located in Yancey County and operated by Mayland Community College. The Earth to Sky Park is the first park in the Southeastern United States certified by the DarkSky International. ⭐️

The Park is home to the Bare Dark Sky Observatory, the Glenn & Carol Arthur Planetarium, a Visitor’s Center, picnic shelter, numerous gardens, and more. The Bare Dark Sky Observatory opened in 2017 and houses the 34-inch “Sam Scope,” the largest telescope in North Carolina open to public use. The observatory allows visitors to experience the wonders of the universe, while providing 360-degree views at an elevation of 2,736 feet. Community Viewing Nights and private rentals are available year-round. ⭐️

The Arthur Planetarium opened in July 2022 and offers astronomy and environmental education during daylight hours, making it the perfect field trip destination for schools and Mayland Community College classes alike. Laser Light shows are also a popular entertainment attraction for locals and visitors. ⭐️

It's happening this week! The Toe River Arts Spring Studio Tour is Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 10 AM – 5 PM each day. This year’s tour features over 90 artists and 10 galleries located in Yancey County and Discover Mitchell NC, North Carolina.

Mark your calendars for the Toe River Arts Spring Studio Tour happening on May 31 -June 2, 2024, from 10 AM – 5 PM each day. This year’s tour features over 90 artists and 10 galleries located in Yancey County and Discover Mitchell NC, North Carolina.

Our talented Toe River Arts artists are glass blowers, jewelers, printmakers, potters, fiber artists, metal workers, painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media artists, and woodworkers.

It's moving week!

We are actually, for real, having our next Yancey County Farmers Market at the Yancey County Community Resource Center on West Main Street in Downtown Burnsville!

🗓 This Saturday April 27th!

📍 Located on Swiss and Main across from Homeplace Beer Company and Hearth Glass & Gallery ... you can't miss it!

🚗🛻🏍 Parking is available at surrounding businesses and municipal lots. Look for the signs, and please take care to use crosswalks and be courteous when using our neighboring parking lots!

🐶🐶 There are No Dogs Allowed withing the market area! If your dog can be carried or in a stroller, that's fine. But please do not walk your dogs into the market! It's a much more congested space and we have to keep customer and vendor safety in mind. Thank you for your understanding!

We have 25 vendors lined up with all of your favorites!
Bring your knives for sharpening by Mark Langner at Yancey Sharpening! Bring your bags for shopping!

Located in Burnsville, NC, Mount Mitchell Golf Club is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and one hour from Asheville. This beautiful mountain course remains a golfer’s haven. Built in 1975, Mount Mitchell Golf Club is a mostly flat par 72 scenic golf course at the base of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. Play a round in a setting like none other. Contact the Pro Shop at (828) 675-5454 to make a tee time. ⛳

Hawtree’s Pub, named after the golf course designer, Fred W. Hawtree, is open for dine-in or carry out. Hawtree's offers a selection of local beer, tasty sandwiches, pizza, and more.

Toe River Crafts doors opened on April 1. The 50th anniversary celebration kicks off Saturday, April 6, with an ice cream social and book signing for member-artist Kate Smyre M**h. In July, the Yancey County Public Library will host a commemorative exhibit featuring photos, articles and more from the gallery’s archives.

Come early spring, there’s always an excited buzz among the working member-artists of Toe River Crafts as they ready the gallery for its annual April 1 re-opening. This year, as the gallery reaches a milestone 50 years in business, that buzz is electrifying.

Yancey County in North Carolina has the unique distinction of being home to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, at 6,684 feet. Visitors can access Mount Mitchell State Park off the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker 355.4.

The county seat, Burnsville, North Carolina, is home to Parkway Playhouse and Toe River Arts, both fine examples of the influence and importance of the arts in this area. Burnsville is also home to Mayland Earth to Sky Park, an environmental educational park. The park is open to the public and includes the Bare Dark Sky Observatory and Arthur Planetarium.

The Center for Pioneer Life will have Spring Sow and Grow this Saturday, March 16 from 11 AM to 3 PM at 134 Joe Young Road, Burnsville, North Carolina.

The event will feature delicious food from Simone Travisano and Root Down, music by Spinning Wheel and Friends, with vendors and artisans, including Healthy Plantet Homestead, Browns Creek Herbs, Mossy Path Studio, Thrive Appalachia, and ReMax. Dig In! Yancey Community Garden will do a cooking demonstration and Quilt N Code has a quilting activity.

Historians Michael Hardy and Elaine McAlister Dellinger will be there with historical books and living history period clothing. Cost is $5 adults and free to children. We'll see you there!
