Hansome couple, note the jewelry on the hen's right leg.
Jump day. Unfortunately I was only able to capture two of the little guys. From what I can tell at least a dozen hatched.
I always suspected Oscar was a family man. I finally got a look at his offspring.
It’s a beautiful day and all the birds are singing, even Oscar. He is generally pretty grouchy and doesn’t like to sing but today he cannot help it. If you can listen past the song birds and the mourning dove you can hear a happy singing Oscar.
A little video I put together to showcase my Peterson style bluebird nest boxes. Hope you enjoy. Thanks.
Many people believe that nesting wood ducks need to be near water. Here is a pair of wood ducks actively searching for a nest site as filmed through our bedroom window. We do not have a pond or lake even close to us. After the ducklings hatch mrs woodie hen will take her ducklings to a suitable water source sometimes 1/2 mile away or more.
This week’s feature nest box is my robin/dove shelf. Both robins and doves prefer nesting on a platform. The preferred placement would be on the side of a building. Both species are very easy to attract.

Slinky critter stopper round two.
I walked my property last weekend and came upon these wood duck ducklings. I startled off their mother
but If you listen close you can hear her calling to them. The little guys had just left one of my nest boxes, they were only a day old of so.
My friend Quinton sent me this video of 14 woodie ducklings making the big jump from one of my nest boxes. Pretty darn cool.
Moma woodie doing a "new home inspection"
The Piliated wood pecker is one of my favorite birds, I'm not so sure my maple tree agrees.
Apparently mama woodie does not like the paparazzi.
