Our Story
Overson Landings Vacation Rentals is a family owned business that offers two wheelchair accessible properties. One is in Wisconsin, USA and on the other is on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. Namakagon Landing is on beautiful Lake Namakagon in the Chequamegon National Forest in Cable, WI (www.vrbo.com/1146321). Casa Elios is located on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica in Playa Hermosa, near Cobano, Santa Teresa (www.vrbo.com/925788). Both properties are 100% barrier free. Accessible to all and all are welcome.
Namakagon Landing is a 4 bedroom, accessible lake home in the beautiful northwoods of Wisconsin. It includes an attached, heated garage and accessible bathroom. Activities for all in the area include swimming, boating (on our wheelchair accessible pontoon boat), paddling, biking, 4-wheeling and fishing in summer and snowmobiling, ice-fishing, and world-class X-C skiing in winter. Namakagon Landing is also a great place to get away from it all, read a good book, watch a movie, or just sit on the dock and watch the world go by while listening to the call of the loons. Our rental comes with a fleet of 4 kayaks (1 tandem) and a fishcat (one person fishing pontoon). No matter what the season, you are sure to create a lifetime of memories.
Located just under 3 hours from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Namakagon Landing is a northwoods lovers' dream getaway.
Casa Elios is our newest vacation rental in Playa Hermosa, Cobano, on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. This 2 bedroom, one bathroom house was completed in 2016 and is.
The house sleeps 6-7 very comfortably, includes your own private pool and provides access to a quiet beach via a short, easy walk through the jungle. There is a full kitchen, large bathroom with hot water, AC, a dining area and large outdoor deck with two outdoor showers (one with hot and cold water). The house is one level and also 100% barrier free.
The house is located in the small, beautiful village of Playa Hermosa between the lively beach town of Santa Teresa and the quiet, fishing village of Manzanillo. It is on the southern Nicola Peninsula of Costa Rica and should not be confused with the Playa Hermosa south of San Jose and Jaco on the mainland. It is a very short walk through the jungle to the beach, a very popular surf and sunset spot, with several nice restaurants. You can walk/wheel to the local mercado (about 50 meters), several small surf shops with rentals, and a coffee shop. There is a surf camp nearby that offers lessons, and several times during the year has an adaptive surf camp. The house is surrounded by an electric security fence, has parking, a large outdoor deck and dining area, wifi, and resident monkeys and tropical birds. There is a roll-in shower, pool lift, ramp to and from the driveway, and adjustable beds in the master bedroom.
Playa Hermosa is a short distance (15 minutes north) of the village of Santa Teresa which is the closest town with conveniences. It has some nice restaurants, surf shops, a mercado, new coffee shop and school. Santa Teresa has more restaurants, shops, activities and tours. In Playa Hermosa you will have the best of both worlds but more privacy, quiet and natural surroundings. The sandy beach is uncrowded and unspoiled. All the locals and visitors migrate down just before sunset to watch the beautiful Pacific sunsets in amazement.
Popular activities include surfing, hikes to waterfalls, birdwatching, horseback riding on the beach, snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, zip lines, fishing, yoga, wellness retreats, and jungle tours and/or hikes. Tours can be arranged to see amazing volcanos, raft whitewater and/or flat water rivers, do a jeep tour, go horseback riding on the beach or rent a boat to go deep sea fishing, attend a wellness retreat, learn Spanish or get a massage, to name a few options.
The people of Costa Rica are lovely and always willing to help. Most speak English but we recommend you use an app like Google Translate or similar to help with translation. The markets carry a variety of fresh, local produce and meats and can change on a daily basis. Organic food and products are also available. It is a good idea to pick up some basic staples in the city you fly into - either Liberia or San Jose.
The house comes with a fully equipped kitchen, linen, towels, new kitchen appliances, serving and cooking utensils, pots and pans, a washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. The house was designed for wheelchair access to accommodate the owner. It is accessible to all and all are welcome.
We highly recommend the area for adventurous wheelchair (and non-wheelchair) users. Bring a wheelchair that has fat tires for easy beach access. The roads are not especially good anywhere in Costa Rica but for those that can drive there are lots of nearby destinations, restaurants, and activities that we can help you find and navigate. We can also help direct you to the places with the best access. It's not easy traveling with a wheelchair but if we can do it so can you!
We understand the challenges of accessible travel and are committed to making Namakagon Landing and Casa Elios the most accessible vacation rentals on the planet. (They may already be, but we will continue to improve it and are open to your suggestions.) Check us out, like us on facebook, share with friends, and start making memories today. Overson Landings Accessible Vacation Rentals was created by and for people with mobility issues, but all are welcome.
