Family Visitation Services - FVS

Family Visitation Services - FVS Providing professional monitors for supervised visitation in Southern California for over 30 years. Provide supervision over monitors.

Involved in over 1,000 child visitation cases and over 5,000 supervised visitations, monitoring contact between a child and their non-custodial parent or guardian, when allegations of domestic violence, abuse, neglect arise. Case referred divisions of the Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, and Ventura County Superior Courts, law firms, Attorneys, Mediators, Judges, DCFS, and by Family Preservatio

n to provide emergency crisis support where parents have been removed from the home due to crime, abuse, or hospitalization. I have monitored under the supervision of a professional evaluator at night monitored parent and child during a visit, when requested by the court-appointed custody evaluator. Observe and document the child and the parent’s behavior and their interactions with one another regarding safety concerns and report to the court. I have provided visitations and emergency in-home care for at-risk foster children through the Department of Children and Family Services. Provided on-site and on-line training for monitoring staff, family law attorneys, judges, and parents. Provided out of city or out-of-state visitations for extended periods and accompanied children long distances for visitation or transport. Worked with high-profile individuals and families as a monitor, professional child es**rt, and facilitator of services for families in high-stress situations including distance traveling for monitoring on vacations and transporting children to treatment centers. Sensitive to difficult family dynamics complicated by cultural core values, Ilene is a compassionate force. She is an unorthodox problem solver and critical thinker. She believes that monitoring should be an opportunity for the family vs the outdated paradigm of using it as a "weapon" to gain a custodial advantage in family court. Ilene is insightful and solution-oriented, a trusted resource in a system that doesn't always seem to benefit the children and families.

Navigating the complexities of court-ordered visitations can be challenging for both parents and children. At Family Visitation Services, we understand the emotional toll this process can take, and we're here to support you every step of the way. One simple yet effective tip to make visitations smoother is to arrive early.

Arrive Early:
Give yourself extra time to get to the visitation site. Arriving early can help reduce anxiety and ensure the visit starts on time. When you arrive ahead of schedule, you have the opportunity to:

Settle In: Take a moment to collect yourself and prepare mentally for the visit.
Calm Nerves: Reduce the stress of rushing and avoid the panic of potentially being late.

Prepare Your Child: Give your child time to adjust to the environment, making them feel more comfortable and secure.

By arriving early, you create a calm and positive start to the visit, setting the tone for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for both you and your child.

At Family Visitation Services, we are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for all supervised visitations. Our professional monitors are here to ensure compliance with court orders and to make each visit as smooth as possible.

Pack Essentials: Bring along any necessary items such as snacks, water, comfort toys, or any special medical needs to ensure your child feels comfortable.

Stay Positive: Maintain a positive attitude before and after the visit. Your child will pick up on your emotions, so staying calm and upbeat can help them feel more secure.

Communicate Openly: Let the monitor know if there are any specific concerns or instructions regarding the visit. Open communication helps ensure everything goes smoothly.

Follow the Rules: Adhering to the guidelines set by the court and the monitor is crucial. This not only ensures compliance but also sets a good example for your child.

I give tribute to my most amazing stepmom ever Beatrice, my “little Bebe”. She came to our family when I was 19 years old and stayed with us for 25 years until her passing. Me and my sister called her every day no matter where we were. She was a light in dim days of the passing of my mother. If I had a bat line to heaven I would call her there. I miss her so much. I catch myself thinking I need to call Bea and she has been gone 14 years.

My Mom died when I was 18 years old, and Beatrice gave us the birth of a new life for me and my sisters and dad. It was life as a family. My dad was so happy. She loved him and he loved her so much. It was the best time of his life and ours. In the grand tapestry of family, there exists a special thread woven with love, resilience, and unwavering devotion—the stepmother. Often overshadowed by traditional parental roles, stepmothers stand as unsung heroes, their significance transcending biological ties. With hearts open wide, they embrace not only their partner but also the children who come with them, bridging the chasm between past and present with grace and compassion. They can take on the roles of friend, mentor, and protector. They are there as volunteers. The relation can bring a light to a child. I was lucky and have gratitude.

I, too, become a stepmother and help raised a wonderful child that was going through so much because of his mother’s mental illness. I never replaced her. I was a bonus to my son.

Let’s celebrate the mothers and the stepmothers’ beautiful souls.

Happy Mother’s Day too to all Aunties and Grandparents who help create the communities that help our children to be successful.

We know that high conflict custody causes trauma and affects our children’s life to adulthood. Let us take a minute and think about our actions and words. Hurt and betrayal is difficult. You are a warrior, think about what we are doing to influence our children in a more positive way. You are getting divorced or separated, not the children. Have a Happy Mother’s Day.

Let us all celebrate the women who has been a part of our lives.

🚩 Recognizing the Signs of Abuse 🚩

Family dynamics can obscure abusive behaviors, making it crucial to recognize the signs and protect your loved ones. Abuse isn't always physical; it can be emotional, psychological, or financial. Here are some common signs to watch for:

Physical Signs: Physical signs of abuse may include unexplained injuries such as bruises, cuts, burns, or fractures. These injuries may not align with the explanations given, or they may occur repeatedly. Victims may also display signs of neglect, such as poor hygiene, untreated medical conditions, or being undernourished.

Emotional Signs: Emotional abuse can be harder to detect but is equally damaging. Victims may exhibit symptoms of depression, anxiety, or withdrawal. They may become excessively fearful or exhibit low self-esteem. Sudden changes in behavior, such as becoming more aggressive or withdrawn, can also indicate emotional abuse.

Psychological Signs: Psychological abuse involves tactics such as gaslighting, manipulation, threats, or controlling behavior. Gaslighting involves making the victim doubt their own reality, memory, or perceptions. Manipulation tactics may include guilt-tripping, playing mind games, or using emotional blackmail. Threats can be explicit or implicit, aimed at keeping the victim compliant. Controlling behavior may involve isolating the victim, monitoring their activities, or exerting financial control.

Financial Signs: Financial abuse occurs when one partner exerts control over the other's finances, limiting their access to money or resources. Signs of financial abuse may include unexplained expenses, restricted access to bank accounts or credit cards, or being forced to account for every penny spent. Victims may also be prevented from working or pursuing education to maintain financial dependence.

Educate yourself and others about these signs to create a safer environment for everyone. If you suspect abuse, don't hesitate to seek help from trusted resources.

In moments of profound loss, words often fall short of expressing the depth of our feelings. We recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of a beloved client, a devoted mother whose love for her child knew no bounds. In her memory, we are reminded of the fragility of life and the preciousness of every moment we share with our loved ones.

To honor her memory and the love she had for her son, we've customized a special teddy bear, Arthur Teddy, as a gift for her young boy now in the loving care of his grandfather. Arthur Teddy, with a heart on its chest and the ability to say 'I love you' with a press, is more than a toy; it's a message of enduring love and the importance of cherishing every moment we have together.

Let's hold our loved ones a little tighter today and always remember: the time we have is precious, and the legacy of love is the most valuable gift we can offer. In times of disagreement or strife, let's pause to consider what truly matters—understanding, compassion, and the well-being of our children, who feel and remember more than we realize. As we continue to support each other through life's ups and downs, let's also strive to build a legacy of love, understanding, and compassion for our children. They are our hope, our future, and the best parts of us left to flourish in this world.

To the families we serve, to the communities we're part of, and to everyone facing challenges: You're not alone. Together, we can make each moment count, fill it with love, and perhaps, make the world a little brighter for our children. It's a reminder that beyond the challenges and conflicts, the heart of what we do is about fostering love, understanding, and precious memories that last a lifetime.

We are more than our challenges; we are families, friends, and memories in the making. Let's make every moment count, for ourselves and for our children.
