Olympic weightlifting focuses on moving weight from the ground to an overhead position with two different lifts; the clean & jerk and the snatch.
So these athletes primarily focus on movement in one front to back plane of motion (known as the sagittal plane). However, their core must be prepared to stabilize heavy weight from all directions when it’s caught in a vulnerable, overhead position. Here’s how:
1st Exercise
Deadbug + anti-rotation = CORE STRENGTH
This move builds awareness of bracing and maintaining a neutral spine despite the legs moving in opposite directions and upper body resisting rotation which will really fire up your core!
2nd Exercise
Paloff press in split stance = FUNCTIONAL CORE STRENGTH
By working on rotational strength while in the split jerk position, Dan’s brain & core can be better prepped from multiple directions for when that heavy bar wobbles around.
