A year ago today I got to amble through this 16th century Slains Castle on the east coast of Scotland. This was my third time to tour this abandoned structure. So much history here. It began as a 16th century tower house and was added onto periodically, until it became known as a 19th century country house. Some house! Note that it is abandoned and some fencing exists with signs saying to keep out. That hasn't stopped anyone! It's just too spectacular to avoid.

This 16th century cottage is located in Okeford Fitzpaine, a village in the English county of Dorset, situated in the Blackmore Vale. It has been beautifully done. Loved my stay there!

If you want to see it, call ahead ... way, way ahead! This is the second time I've tried to see the inside and no one answered the phone, etc. Went in 2017 and this year -- no luck!

Slains Castle, Cruden Bay, Scotland. My third trip to Slains was just as amazing as the first. The Winter Sea, by Susanna Kearsley, made it come alive. Such a wonderfully written historical fiction novel! Thanks to my friend, Tammy Kirby, who was so patient with me as we explored every detail of the castle and grounds.

Just returned from a trip to Scotland and England with my friend, Tammy Kirby. Wonderful trip! I'll be posting some photos of our two and one half week journey over the next few weeks. First of all, we picked up a car at Enterprise in Edinburgh. They were great all the way around! Our last experience with Hertz did not go so well. I highly recommend Enterprise Car Rental at the Edinburgh Airport.

It's almost that time again. Planning another trip to the UK. I got extremely lucky this time and was able to book a 17th century thatched cottage in Scotland and in England! One week in each!
