Join Red Rock Canyon State Park on a Docent led “Jurassic Park” hike. Come with us on a two-mile roundtrip hike to visit the Jurassic Park filming location, when Red Rock Canyon State Park was used as a stand-in for fossil beds in Montana. Leading the hike will be Jon Hammond, a naturalist and fluent speaker of the Nuwa (Kawaiisu or Southern Paiute) Indian language, who will be pointing out native plants and sharing info about the history of the area as we make our way to the filming site. The hike is an out-and-back two-mile hike rated as easy to moderate. Meet at the visitor center at 9:00 A.M. for introduction. Visitors will follow by personal vehicle one mile to Red Cliffs for the start of the hike.

We should be remembering the natives that were stewards of the lands we live on everyday, not just once a year. The area we are in was where the Kawiisu lived. These pictographs are of a birthing shelter in Kitanumuk territory that is not that far away and that was used buy Kawaiisu, Kitanumuk, and Tataviam women.
I visited this site earlier this year and was moved and in awe. This and other places are sacred to their descendants. Please visit with respect and reverence and do not share locations.
