Malibu Coast 6/28/2026
Hey Gang, well my guest’s and I just experienced the most wide open calico fishing any of us have ever seen! Got into the zone to find birds picking and it was as wide as it could possibly be!! We had 70 bass in the first hour and it never really let up. No real monsters but a real nice grade with most fish going 2-4lbs, lot’s of doubles triples and even a few quads! There were times they bite the k**b off the plastic but still eat it! So aggressive that many times you would come back with a bare leadhead! At the end we had 25 nice sandies on one clicker and 258 calico’s on the other!! We got them on various plastics but but the Big Hammers stole the show! Cappy

Santa Cruz Island 5/31/25
Hey Gang, fished Santa Cruz yesterday with my group and had a really fun day of bassing despite red tide conditions they ate 4-5in Big Hammers but the hot ticket seemed to a yellow or orange head in that yucky colored water. Cappy

Santa Barbara 4/12/2025
Hi Gang, with the threat of a small craft advisory and big swell I opted to stay on the coast again this weekend. We ran ran out to where we have been fishing those deep water bass the last few months to target those but also sack up some of the bycatch we have had to throw back during the closure. Lots of sandbass, browns, reds and even a couple lings all caught on critter colored Big Hammers, the current was smoking so had to fish heavier heads and really pay attention to bottom contact. Santa Barbara 3/1/2024
We Gang what can I say the beat goes on! Despite ugly conditions all day we put together another fun day of bassing, 4-5 in Big Hammers along with flat fall style jigs got it done. Cappy

Santa Barbara local 2/22/2025
Hey Gang, another real fun day of bass fishing out of Santa Barbara today, a little slower than two weeks ago but lots of quality bass! It was more of a finesse today with smaller baits getting bit, 4in Hammers and ringer worms working best. Cappy

Santa Barbara 2/8/25
Hey Gang fished out SB today with my two guests after a slow start we found a deeper zone that wanted to bite and the sandbass went wide open with a surprising amount of lingcod mixed in with the bass! Really fun fishing and as usual the Big Hammers got it done not just swimbaits but the Ringer Worms as well! Cappy

Santa Barbara 12/21/24.
Hey Gang ran the final trip of the 2024 season out of Santa Barbara and we decided to take a look at the local bass scene and found real fun fishing despite the lack of conditions. No big fish this trip and it was a 75/25 sandy/ calico mix, they ate 4-5in Big Hammers and and also the Hammer Ringer. No pictures of the fish but one real nice picture of us leaving the harbor again. Cappy

Santa Cruz Island 11/30/24
Hey Gang too beautiful of a day not to share! Quite possibly the calmest day I’ve ever seen in the Santa Barbara channel! We spent the first half of the day chasing bass that didn’t want to bite, the shifted gears and took advantage of the wide open whitefish/ sheep’s head bite in the area for a little freezer filler action. Amazing day on the water! Cappy

Santa Barbara 9/28/24.
Hey Gang decided to try something different as the islands have been a little tough for us lately. Ran the first fall trip out of Santa Barbara for the season and the bass fishing was pretty good! We had great action with the calico’s first thing in the morning and solid sand bass fishing in the afternoon, also managed a couple lings and 60lb black seabass all caught on various plastics, really fun day and great to catch up with old friends!
