Between Daniel’s stories and Rob Crean being much funnier than the rest of us, there are few more enjoyable ways to spend a Wednesday evening than this gig on 9/11:

Boston History Company (formerly Cambridge Historical Tours) is seeking new guides who are able to deliver interesting narratives of history with a passionate, theatrical flair, and deep love of sharing and teaching others.

Tours primarily focus on Boston's Freedom Trail, Harvard and MIT, Kendall Square and Innovation, Museum of Fine Arts, and other local favorites. Guide pay starts at $50 hourly for public tours and $65 hourly for private tours. Work is very flexible and part time only. We do not have full time positions available at the moment. Saturdays and Sundays are the heaviest tour days, but weekdays can also fill up. Evening tours are unusual, so we are looking for daytime availability. Perfect for someone with flexible/remote work looking to get out and moving, theatre folk between gigs, teachers looking to teach in non-classroom settings, and history buffs who just know this is the kind of job they've always wanted.

Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis through February and the first week of March with decisions made in the second week of March. Training begins Sunday, March 17th, and guides are expected to know their first tour by April 20th. Training pays a flat fee of $400-$800 depending on length of tour learned.

Tour season generally begins in May and runs through mid-November. This is when the bulk of the tours will be available. Most guides average 2-8 tours per week. Please email Daniel and/or Kelley at [email protected] for an interview, and we look forward to meeting you!

What a lovely, cheeky, hilarious review of our fine city and it’s newest hotel (and a complimentary section on our tours, which is pretty saucy). Thanks, The Times of London!

It’s 7pm on a Saturday and we are — somewhat dangerously — halfway down our second martinis in an elegant bar on the 17th floor of a glitzy new hotel. The hig

Friends, Romans, Countrymen,

If you’d like to take our tour home with you, or if you’d like to try it for a somewhat risk-free $15, we now have a GPS triggered tour that you can pop in headphones and theoretically just walk where it tells you. Even if you just want to download it and then give us 5 stars, think of that as a donation to us! We’d be super appreciative.

But if you took our tour in the past and recall it fondly, this is a great way to relive it, as you can also play each stop from home and remember some fun details. Give it a shot! Thanks

Did you know that inventors Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell worked out of a telegraph shop in Boston, and that's where the telephone was invented?!

The shop was owned by Charles Williams, Jr. He liked the invention so much that he had the first two telephones installed between his shop and his home in Somerville. His phone numbers? 1 and 2.

“On Patriots Day, visitors at the Worcester Historical Museum were able to view a piece of history displayed only once a year.

John Hancock, played by actor Daniel Berger Jones, is at the museum alongside his 245-year-old trunk which held many historical papers used in the American Revolution. The trunk has been stored at the museum since 1895. Its history dates back to April 18, 1775 when Hancock and Samuel Adams were staying in Lexington, Mass.on the eve of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

The trunk, which at the time was filled with Hancock’s personal notes and correspondence considered traitorous by the British, was being stowed at a tavern in Lexington. On the morning of April 19, 1775, as the British advanced toward Lexington for the battle, Hancock and Adams were moved to evade capture. Paul Revere and Hancock’s clerk retrieved the trunk from the tavern and hid it from the British, saving a vital piece of American history.”

The 245-year-old trunk is only displayed on Patriots Day.

This morning one of our guides was giving a tour of Granary Burying Ground, when she noticed something unusual. A sinkhole had formed over a early 19th century crypt, naturally she decided to stick her phone down in it to explore. A little window into something normally reserved for the dead. The crypt dates back to 1810, and belongs to a one O Goodwin.
