Well it was not a great weather weekend, but luckily we didn’t have a lot to do. With busy schedules it’s hard to get the adult-ish kids to the lake as often. Cam and Violet joined us this time and it was nice to have them.

I’m sure they are looking around at what we are taking on and thinking we are crazy, well Cam knows what we’ve done in the past so he must think “oh this is just what my parents do” 🤪

But things will really be picking up now! The foundation and flat work are really well done so that brings a feeling of relief. A good foundation being poured with us 3 hours away was a little daunting to make sure the lines of communication were open.

Framing starts this week and sadly I will be watching from the camera as will be in Mexico the next 2 weekends, which I am not complaining about because I feel like summer will be very busy after this little break of 🌴🌊🐠🛥️🍹and good lord some 🌞 please!!

“I’m not a real plumber, I just play one on tv”. To say it was a fun weekend would be 99% a lie, but when I watch this man work so hard to build something special for his family, there is such a feeling of pride I can’t help but call it something fun to see unfold. Now I couldn’t just watch, and let me tell you this is about the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Well maybe other than putting up hundreds of hay bales in 100 degrees 🤪 but under slab plumbing is done for the main level bath, kitchen, laundry and utility room!

Now to get the floor poured and walls framed!! And no, we aren’t doing that, thank God!

After several delays with the rock they hit, machines breaking, the worst winter the lake has seen in 5 years 🙄, holidays and a revised foundation plan, we met with our foundation contractor Saturday and they are there today just as discussed!

This is the perfect start to my day!! Build projects are never easy or perfect, but 3 hours away also seems to be a challenge 🤪 Things will be ramping up now so if you don’t see us much this summer, this is where you’ll find us. We will be accepting any guests for an extended free stay that aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty 😂

Such a lovely weather weekend to start February! They are finally done with the rock chipping and we are next on the list for our foundation 🤩
Did a couple of small dock projects and of course burned some more and just enjoyed some down time from the crazy world right now!

Well it’s official, groundbreaking has commenced!! It’s a feeling of excitement, but a bit nerve-wracking, because this is a big undertaking for us 3 hours away.

A little backstory…4 years ago almost to do the day we had an itch to fulfill our dream of building a Colorado mountain home. And we actually drove out to an area we liked, looked at lots all day and bought one 😳 yes we do crazy stuff!

Needless to say, that was a crazy dream and we kept it alive for a couple of years but with prices where they were compared to when we bought, it made sense to let it go. We had an adorable black house planned that Mark designed.

So fast forward to now. After we sold the other lake house this year, we looked at houses and nothing spoke to us, unless it was way outside of the budget!

Back to the drawing board when we started looking at the original dream again 🖤

Maybe not the Colorado mountains, but the Ozark mountains are really lovely too, and we are in a very private area, which we love the peace, quiet and the beautiful nature we are surrounded by.

There are not a lot of lakefront lots with the space we wanted, and a 250k lot was not an option, so we just happened to find this little, actually somewhat big, lot that was a diamond in the rough! We love this lot and the area it is in so much!

So as of now….
Lot is cleared ✔️
Electric installed ✔️
Parking pad built ✔️
Dock permit and dock installed ✔️
Building permit approved ✔️
House plans finalized (only 8 revisions to the floor plan 😂) ✔️
And dirt work began yesterday ✔️

So wish us luck and patience as we dive into what will be the 2nd biggest project we have done (we built the house we live in now 23 years ago, like actually built it from the ground up) so hoping this is a fun and productive project that provides us years of enjoyment! And thankfully I’m not pregnant like the last time 😂

We will be short term renting the house when we aren’t there and special discounts for teachers! So follow us along on this journey and hopefully there will be a beautiful house by summer!

So far these are the colors I plan to use in the lake house! Walls will be a nice creamy white, white oak floors and mainly white, white oak and black cabinetry. The house will have 3 bathrooms so I plan to have some accent wallpaper in those as well as the entry way and butler’s pantry. Give me your favorites 1-best,5-least!!

Another beautiful weekend that was hard to leave! Always fun bringing the camper back in the dark 🤪 May hang on to those videos for another day.

Took a big step and closed on the construction loan Friday and signed our excavation/foundation contract that could start next week!

No turning back now, but we don’t want to and are here for the work, fun and a little more sweat equity in our life!

Exciting weekend at the lake lot! More clearing and burning, but we also met our excavation/foundation contractor and things are moving forward and we should have a foundation in the next 2 months!!!

I almost think we are crazy for doing this, or crazy if we don’t!

I am getting a lot of positive energy from this place and hope this is just a glimpse of the fun family memories we have in store for us.
