I was at the West Fork Lodge getting it ready for our first guests of the season. Had to just stop, look around and be thankful for the beautiful place we get to live. West Fork Bridge is in the photo.

The run off has begun! This is a photo from the West Fork Lodge (which is, of course, for rent). Look at the difference in color of the Madison River and the run off from the West Fork of the Madison.
So lucky to live here!
Right now we have a gentleman named Mike who is from California working at the West Fork Lodge. He is completely redoing the front master bathroom. Our guests will love what he is doing. However, he is enjoying being in Montana so much, he is considering a move here!

We drove into Bozeman (now known as The Big City) for some shopping and lunch. We pass Ted Turner's ranch as we drive in. His pasture is full of yearly buffalo. They sure look cute but.... as some tourists can tell you, they can be a little cranky. Thank goodness for fences and keeping them fed daily.

Last week there was an article in our local paper the Madisonian. It was a wonderful piece about items lost and found. Go to http://www.madisoniannews.com/features/good-things-quiet-way to read it.
However, I had a similar conversation with one of my homeowners several years ago. His story went like this: He had gone float fishing. When he got out of the boat, in the shuffle, he left his favorite rod and reel at a boat takeout. When he arrived at his Montana home, he realized his mistake and hurried back to the takeout. No rod. He and his wife returned several times to search but they didn't find the rod.
On the last day day before they were to return home, they again went back to the takeout. His wife spotted some rocks holding a piece of paper on the picnic table. On the note was information about how to find the person who had picked up his rod for him.
My client couldn't believe that his rod hadn't been taken and that someone had made a huge effort to let him know where to find it.
My response was, "I would have been much more surprised if your rod HADN'T been returned."
Lucky to live here.

We have a lot going on in the Madison Valley politically. So many people want to make certain the Madison River continues to be a great place to visit. One great improvement happened when our neighbor to the north, Roger Lang, agreed to sell his 300 acre tract of land to BLM. His generosity will allow for a future wading access area.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Unluckily this picture is only worth about a hundred words as there were about ten times the number of elk out on the meadows above the Palisades as I was able to capture in the photo!

2/23/19 Photo of The Day. Madison River Gorge Report. Ennis, MT

The Ice Gorge on the Madison River has made it to the Town Bridge. It actually happened over a week ago, but I've been waiting for some good light to post a photo.

The ice builds up from Ennis Lake every year, and it's always exciting when it reaches Town. The river finds a new temporary path in the floodplain, and it's currently over by Odell Creek.

Feel free to share on FB, but please do not save my photos to your computer or device. Check back for more, or you can see some other angles on my instagram page.

Thanks and Happy Winter

The smoke from the fires is almost all gone. You can feel that fall is coming. So can the animals. The photo is showing that the beavers took all of the branches that were outside the wire surround on some aspens. We actually have to cut down two large aspens that are rubbing on the roof. Terry and I thought we were going to have to cut up and haul the aspens away. We may just leave them in the drive and see what the beavers decide to do!!
