Stop 1️⃣1️⃣ on the ice cream trail is Coneheads Ice Cream “Oneida”! 🤩

Back in 1977, Jeff Behr opened the original Coneheads Ice Cream in Oneida. Returning to the City of Oneida at their new location in summer 2021, owners Adam and Samantha Behr– Jeff’s son and daughter-in-law– knew this location on the Oneida Rail Trail was the right place for them. The Oneida Rail Trail is a 11.3-mile non-motorized, multi-use trail located in the City of Oneida.

Coneheads proudly serves a large selection of soft and hard ice cream, specialty sundaes, milkshakes, flurries, frozen dipped bananas, slush puppies, and more. 🍦

This week they are featuring fan favorites, including: orange & vanilla Dole Whip in a waffle cone, the Original Zombie Sundae, cookiewiches made with Joy’s Sourdough chocolate chip cookies, and drum roll 🥁… a brand new flavor & specialty sundae ➡️

🍌 Banana Pudding 🍌

Open Hours ➡️12 to 9:30 p.m. every day

Did you know Coneheads has 5️⃣ locations in total? You can also visit these other four locations:

✅Coneheads Caribbean ICE CREAM in Canastota
✅CONEHEADS NORTH in Blossvale
✅Coneheads Creamery, LLC in Minoa
✅Coneheads At Ebeneezers in Sherrill

The Behr Family welcomes you to all Coneheads locations for a great ice cream experience!

And don’t forget: Today from 2 to 6 p.m. is the Cottage Lawn Farmers' Market at the MADISON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ONEIDA, NEW YORK. Browse and shop from local farmers, artisans, and vendors 🥖🍅🧀 The summer season market runs through August 27 ✨

Month 3️⃣ of the ice cream trail is here! 🎉

This week we took a scenic drive down to the Drift-In in DeRuyter– this food and ice cream stand has been a community staple since 1953. Now in their second season under new ownership, Bob and Ruthanne Stone and Troy Waffner continue to prove how much they care for their community by honoring the historic legacy of this establishment.

This week they are featuring fan favorites, including: a classic twist in a waffle cone, a great variety of specialty sundaes, the famous Texas hot, loaded tots, and macaroni salad. Yum 🤩

IYKYK they proudly serve Hofmann hot dogs and Gilligan’s Ice Cream. A match made in heaven!

Open ➡️ 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day + they plan to extend their season until September 28 this year, weather permitting.

And don’t forget to bring cash along to pay for your sweet and savory treats 💸

Happening nearby this weekend on August 3 is Critz Farms’ all-day, family-friendly Blueberry Jam Festival 🫐🎸
Then be sure to mark your calendar for the DeRuyter Firemen's Fair, August 8-11! 🎆

Month 2️⃣ of the ice cream trail begins! 🍦

Kicking things off for July, we took a trip to Carter's Creamery in downtown Cazenovia.

This classic walk-up ice cream shop, located at 35 Albany Street, is open 12-9 p.m. daily. They’re featuring 2️⃣ fan favorites: milkshakes and ice cream nachos 😎 Get both on the same trip, no judgment over here! Or better yet, bring a friend along to share with.

Keeping it local is truly a passion here and it can be experienced through menu options like Hudson Dairy custard and Carter’s custom flavors made by Gilligan's Ice Cream in Sherburne, NY: Laker Baked and Nelson Swamp (one of these flavors includes bacon bits, can you guess which one?!) 🐷

Did you know along with ice cream, you can also enjoy your favorite coffee and elevated diner classic here as well? Housed under the same roof are sister businesses Purpose Coffee Co. and Dave's Diner Cazenovia.

Don’t forget, Cazenovia’s own Farmstead1868’s Inaugural Lavender Festival is July 6. This experiential day on the farm will include lots of fragrant lavender, classes, food, samples, music, demonstrations, and their first-ever artisan vendor market. Get your required pre-sale tickets for Lavender Festival here ➡️ bit.ly/cazlavenderfest2024

Pro tip 🌟 add housemade lavender syrup– featuring Farmstead 1868 lavender– to any of Purpose Coffee Co.’s iced or hot drinks next time you visit.

This week on the ice cream trail we took a trip to Nelson Creamery on historic Route 20, nestled between downtown Cazenovia and Nelson, NY! 🤩

We were welcomed by the sweetest staff and had an opportunity to sample several fan favorites on the menu.

They’re featuring their Tuscarora (Skarù·rę) Sundae: vanilla soft serve ice cream, Westfall Maple maple syrup, whipped cream, and maple sugar on top 🍁To simply say this sundae is incredibly delicious does not do it justice– be sure to order one for yourself to enjoy!

Did you happen to see the article published by the Cazenovia Republican earlier this month about the collaboration between Cazenovia Central School District high school students and Nelson Creamery? Check it out here ➡️ bit.ly/cazcollab

The newly-developed flavor, Rainbow Fudge Fiesta, features chocolate ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, a fudge swirl, and brownie pieces. 🌈

From providing an allergen list, gluten-free cones, Dole Whip, and so many more customizable options for customers, there is truly something here for everyone.

With July right around the corner, be sure to purchase your pre-sale tickets for Cazenovia’s own Farmstead1868's Inaugural Lavender Festival 2024 on July 6. This experiential day on the farm will include lots of fragrant lavender, classes, food, samples, music, demonstrations, and their first-ever artisan vendor market. Help celebrate what Farmstead 1868 cherishes most—their love for farming, family, art, home, and all things made by hand. 💜

It’s week 4 of our ice cream trail and we made our way to the heart of Peterboro, NY– the Peterboro General Store at Deli on the Green 🌻

June is National Dairy Month and each week the store is featuring a new themed sundae. This week is the Guernsey Sundae: toasted coconut, caramel, chocolate ice cream, crushed vanilla wafer cookie, whipped cream, and a cherry. 🐮

Open ➡️
Tuesday + Wednesday– 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday– 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday– 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday– 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday– Noon to 6 p.m.

While in Peterboro, be sure to experience the exterior exhibits at the Gerrit Smith Estate, open from dawn to dusk, as well as the interior spaces on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.

The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum in Peterboro is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 p.m. and is located in the building in which the inaugural meeting of the New York State Antislavery Society was held in 1835.

Tomorrow, June 19, is Juneteenth National Independence Day. As the 12th federally recognized holiday, Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States.

"As we continue to celebrate Juneteenth as a federal holiday, we remember and recognize how the Black community continues to make a way out of no way, overcoming trials and celebrating triumphs while honoring the place and price of freedom." –Kevin Young, Andrew W.
