Today, we pause to honor the bravery of those Americans who have served or are serving in the U.S. armed forces who represent the best America has to offer; volunteering to put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect the nation today, and every day.

- According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 6.2% of all Americans have served in the military.
- Approximately 18.6 million Veterans are living in the United States that have served or continue to serve our country. Of those, only about 2 million are women Veterans.
- Approximately 20% of all Veterans are combat Veterans and about the same percentage of Veterans serve a full 20 years to retirement.

Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication have shaped our nation and protected our freedoms.

The calendar may say November, but here at OCF, we’re already thinking spring — the 2025 Spring Cycle of Community Grants, that is. Program guidelines for this general operating cycle are now live on our website (oregoncf.org/community-grants) with the application scheduled to open December 3. We look forward to hearing from nonprofits making a difference in the backyards, neighborhoods and communities across the state!

Yesterday we helped bring to fruition “the end of the zipper merge” and facilitated cutting the ribbon at the “Grand Re-Opening of Canby” celebration!

This officially marks the completion of the ODoT Highway 99E resurfacing project that spanned more than a year.

The road closures and construction impacted many Canby businesses due to inability to access them during the lengthy project.

This summer, one of our local business owners, Joan Monen, of The Wild Hare Saloon Canby, stopped in to share her concerns about her fellow business owners and the impacts this project was having on their bottom line.

She said “maybe we should throw a grand re-opening party when this is all over with!”

We thought that was a great idea and met with the City of Canby’s Economic Development Director in early August to pitch the idea to them.

They were open to tacking it onto their existing First Thursday events and invited the Oregon Department of Transportation, Canby Fire District, Canby Area Transit and Mayor as well.

We echo Canby’s recently re-elected Mayor, Brian Hodson’s comments and encourage people to visit Canby and enjoy the new and improved highway, but moreover, please come and visit our local merchants and businesses so we can help them recover from a year long struggle of losses and sacrifice.
